Abstract The phenomenon of ion-beam damage in hollandite, first reported by Headley [1], has been investigated in the hollandite phase in Synroc, and a related electron-beam damage phenomenon has been investigated in a synthetic barium aluminium hollandite. An explanation of the beam damage phenomena is proposed in terms of twinning in the monoclinic form of hollandite.
