Article Methyl-CpG-binding protein 2 (MeCP2) is phosphorylated in neurons in response to neuronal activity. Here, Li et al. show that it is also phosphorylated by aurora kinase B in neural progenitor cells, and cell cycle-dependent phosphorylation of MeCP2 regulates the balance between proliferation and differentiation via Notch signalling.
