Description: We present numerical computations and analytic scaling relations for interstellar ion-molecule gas-phase chemistry down to very low metallicities (10 –3  solar), and/or up to high driving ionization rates. Relevant environments include the cool interstellar medium (ISM) in low-metallicity dwarf galaxies, early enriched clouds at the reionization and Pop-II star formation era, and in dense cold gas exposed to intense X-ray or cosmic ray sources. We focus on the behaviour for H 2 , CO, CH, OH, H 2 O and O 2 , at gas temperatures ~100 K, characteristic of a cooled ISM at low metallicities. We consider shielded or partially shielded one-zone gas parcels, and solve the gas-phase chemical rate equations for the steady-state ‘metal-molecule abundances for a wide range of ionization parameters, / n , and metallicties, Z ' . We find that the OH abundances are always maximal near the H-to-H 2 conversion points, and that large OH abundances persist at very low metallicities even when the hydrogen is predominantly atomic. We study the OH/O 2 , C/CO and OH/CO abundance ratios, from large to small, as functions of / n and Z ' . Much of the cold dense ISM for the Pop-II generation may have been OH-dominated and atomic rather than CO-dominated and molecular.

Notes: [Auszug] The required energy is generated and stored by the compression of the pleural arch (which contains resilin)1'2 and the bending of the pleural and coxal walls by muscular contraction, and is released by cuticular click mechanisms. The force thus liberated travels through a series of roughly vertical ...

Notes: Abstract Phenyl and thienyl substituted phosphinates and phosphonates, analogues of dichlorvos, trichlorfon and naled, were examined for their in vitro anticholinesterase activities to heads of the Mediterranean fruit fly, and for toxicities to mice. The data obtained are evaluated in comparison with toxicity results by topical application to adult flies.

    Notes: Abstract Let G=KL and g=k+l be Lie group and Lie algebra decompositions. This identifies k o with l *. Any G-invariant function, f, on g *induces by restriction a function f|k o =l *. We prove a formula which says that the integral curve through α∈k o is obtained as b(t)α, where a(t)=exp tξ with ξ=L f (α), $$\left( * \right){\text{ }}a\left( t \right) = b\left( t \right)c\left( t \right)$$ where (*) is the KL decomposition and where L f : g * → g is the Legendre transform. This generalizes a formula of Symes for the generalized Toda lattice.

Notes: Abstract Helianthus petiolaris andH. niveus are polytypic species which are morphologically distinct at the periphery of their ranges but intergrade in areas of sympatry.Helianthus niveus includes both annual and perennial members, whereasH. petiolaris is strictly annual. Chloroplast DNA and nuclear ribosomal DNA restriction site data were used to reconstruct the evolutionary history of populations of the two species. Cladistic analyses reveal the following: (1) neither species is monophyletic; (2) the annual habit is derived once in this complex; and (3) the region of morphological intergradation appears to be primary in origin. The significance of interbreeding versus common descent in defining species concepts is discussed in relation to the above cladistic analyses.
