Description: The present study intended to find a way to use TiO2, one of the most widely used photocatalysts, as a construction material. To that end, nano-SiO2/Al2O3-TiO2 powder (NTCP) was synthesized by coating SiO2 and Al2O3 support materials with TiO2. The NTCP was anatase phase spherical particles, specific surface areas were 319 m2/g and 267 m2/g for the SiO2-TiO2 powder and Al2O3-TiO2 powder. UV absorption test results showed the developed NTCP had a light absorption peak at wavelengths of 380 nm or below, and its absorbance was much larger than that of commercial TiO2. The NTCP formed smaller pores on the surface than commercial TiO2. As a result, the flow of the mortar decreased as the adsorption strength increased and combined a large number of water molecules. In addition, the Pozzolanic reaction by SiO2 and Al2O3 used as support materials produced many calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) and calcium aluminate hydrate (C-A-H). This has shown an increased strength of mortar mixed with the NTCP by promoting a nucleation effect and reducing the filling effect and the number of harmful holes in the mortar.

Description: This paper deals with a new control strategy for the programmable dynamometer to emulate dynamic loads. The main idea is to employ the disturbance-observer-based design and take the nominal model involved in the disturbance-observer design as the desired dynamics to be emulated. Compared to previous approaches, the proposed approach does not require exact system parameters of the motor under test, and the range of emulation parameters is wider than previous results. A rigorous stability analysis, as well as a constructive design incorporating system uncertainty and the steady state error bound are presented. An experimental system is developed to verify the performance of the proposed method, and it is demonstrated that up to 20-times of inertia emulation with relatively small emulation error (speed error less than 6 % ) is achieved and that various loads such as friction can be emulated.

Description: This paper presents a robust continuous control set model predictive control (CCS-MPC) method to control the output voltage of a three-phase inverter in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). A robust disturbance observer (DOB) is proposed to estimate the load current of the three-phase UPS without a steady-state error, taking the effect of model uncertainties into account. A CCS-MPC is designed using the DOB for reference voltage tracking purpose, and input constraints are considered in the controller design to calculate the optimal control input. Model uncertainties are defined using polytopic uncertainty class, and a linear matrix inequality (LMI) optimization method is used to compute the optimal observer gain matrix. Another robust controller (RC) is designed based on the DOB and compared with CCS-MPC. The effectiveness of the proposed method (the DOB based CCS-MPC) is evaluated for resistive, inductive, and nonlinear loads then compared with other control methods using a three-phase 5-KVA laboratory experiment UPS system.

Description: This paper presents a robust control technique for three-phase chargers under unbalanced grid conditions. The control method consists of inner-loop robust grid-current control and outer-loop proportional integral control for constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) control. A dual-current control for the inner-loop positive and negative sequence is employed to eliminate the unbalanced current caused by the grid so that a constant current and voltage can be provided to the batteries. The inner-loop robust controllers utilize state feedback with integral action in the dq-synchronous frame. A linear matrix inequality-based optimization scheme is used to determine stabilizing gains of the controllers to maximize the convergence rate to steady state in the presence of uncertainties. The uncertainties of the system are described as the potential variation range of the inductance and resistance in the L-filter.
