Description: Pure ZnO and co-doped (Mn, Ag) ZnO nanoparticles have been successfully prepared by chemical co-precipitation method without using a capping agent. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies confirms the presence of wurtzite (hexagonal) crystal structure similar to undoped ZnO, suggesting that doped Mn, Ag ions are substituted to the regular Zn sites. The morphology of the samples were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The chemical composition of pure and co-doped ZnO nanoparticles were characterized by energy dispersive X-ray analysis spectroscopy (EDAX). Optical absorption properties were determined by UV-vis Diffuse Reflectance Spectrophotometer. The incorporation of Ag + , Mn 2+ in the place of Zn 2+ provoked to decrease the size of nanocrystals as compared to pure ZnO. Optical absorption measurements indicates blue shift in the absorption band edge upon Ag, Mn ions doped ZnO nanoparticles.

Description: Drying is a dehydration process to preserve agricultural products for long period usage. The most common and cheapest method is open sun drying in which the products are simply laid on ground, road, mats, roof, etc. But the open sun drying has some disadvantages like dependent on good weather, contamination by dust, birds and animals consume a considerable quantity, slow drying rate and damages due to strong winds and rain. To overcome these difficulties solar dryers are developed with closed environment for drying agricultural products effectively. To obtain good quality food with reduced energy consumption, selection of appropriate drying process and proper input parameters is essential. In recent years several researchers across the world have developed new drying systems for improving the product quality, increasing the drying rate, decreasing the energy consumption, etc. Some of the new systems are fluidized bed, vibrated fluidized bed, desiccant, microwave, vacuum, freeze,...

Description: This work concentrates on the study of the unsteady hydromagnetic heat and mass transfer of a Newtonian fluid in a permeable stretching surface with viscous dissipation and chemical reaction. Thermal radiation, velocity slip, concentrate slip are also considered. The unsteady in the flow, velocity, temperature and concentration distribution is past by the time dependence of stretching velocity surface temperature and surface concentration. Appropriate similarity transformations are used to convert the governing partial differential equations into a system of coupled non-linear differential equations. The resulting coupled non-linear differential equations are solved numerically by using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method along with shooting technique. The impact of various pertinent parameters on velocity, temperature, concentration, skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number and the Sherwood number are presented graphically and in tabular form. Our computations disclose that fl...

Description: Crop drying is the method used to preserve the seasonal food crops during the non-seasonal periods in agricultural sector. In olden days, solar energy was used to dehydrate and preserve the food. Nowadays many new advanced technologies have been introduced. But due to electricity unavailability in rural areas and to utilize the abundantly available solar energy and the waste heat recovery of exhaust gas from the diesel engines used in the agricultural fields for water pumping. Our present work focuses on the CFD and experimental analysis of the solar crop dryer attached with flat plate collector and attached with diesel engine exhaust pipe heat exchanger. A comparison study was made between the crop dryer with and without exhaust pipe heat exchanger and found that when the exhaust pipe was attached there was an improvement in the increase in temperature compared without exhaust pipe. The copper tubes of exhaust pipe were also added with the fins to improve its heat exchanging ef...

Description: ZnO thin films were deposited on glass, quartz and silicon substrates under the same growth condition by r.f. magnetron sputtering technique using a high purity (99.99%) ZnO target of 2-in. diameter and 3 mm thickness in an Argon atmosphere with sputtering power of 50W and sputtering pressure of 2×10 −2 Torr. A systematic study has been made of the influence of substrate on the film structural properties. Crystalline properties of ZnO films as a function of deposited substrate were investigated using X-ray diffraction. XRD analysis revealed that the deposited films were polycrystalline in nature with strong preferential orientation of grains along the c-axis. The micro structural parameters, such as the lattice constant, crystallite size, stress and strain are calculated. The effect of substrate on the deposited films was discussed. All the films present a high transmittance of above 90% in the wavelength range of the visible spectrum and sharp absorption edge near 380...

Description: Cadmium sulfide (CdS) semiconductor nanocrystals doped with Ni 2+ have been synthesized via a solution-based method and employing 2-mercaptoehonal as a capping agent. The obtained nanocrystals were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy studies (DRS). XRD results showed that the undoped CdS nanocrystals are in mixed phase of cubic and hexagonal, where as the doped CdS nanocrystals in hexagonal phase. DRS results supported the mixed phase of undoped nanocrystals by showing two absorption edges at 363 nm and 428 nm. The absorption edge at 363 nm can be attributed to cubic phase while the other can be attributed to hexagonal phase of the sample. But for Ni 2+ doped CdS nanocrystals only one absorption edge at 468 nm was observed. The observed red shift in the band edge of the nickel doped CdS nanocrystals is due to sp-d exchange interactions between the band electrons and the localized d-electrons of the Ni 2+ ...

Description: Vortex tube gives hot and cold streams of gas taking pressurized gas as input. Though this device is mainly used for spot cooling purposes, hot temperature of outlet gas as a response variable, is also of concern for experimentation. The present study deals with modelling and analyzing the effect of five input controllable parameters, each considered with two levels (Max. and Min) viz., internal Diameter of the hot tube in mm, D t , Length of the hot tube in mm, L, inlet Pressure of air, Kgf / cm 2 , P, nozzle Diameter, in mm, D n , and Diameter of the orifice, in mm, D o , on the responses - cold and hot temperatures of outlet air streams (T c & T h ) in °C. Box Behnken design is used for experimentation. The interrelationship between responses and input variables is modelled using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) separately. Regression equations have been developed for the respons...
