Description: All of the representative concentration pathways (RCPs) assume that future emissions of aerosols and aerosol precursors will decline sharply. There is considerable evidence that historically increasing aerosols have substantially affected tropical precipitation, but the effects of projected aerosol declines have received little attention. We compare projections forced by the medium-low RCP4.5 pathway in two subsets of models from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5): one group (HiForc) includes treatments of indirect aerosol effects on cloud albedo and cloud lifetime as well as direct aerosol effects, while the other group (LoForc) only treats direct aerosol effects. In this scenario we find that models in the HiForc group consistently project larger increases in both the mean and inter-hemispheric (north minus south) asymmetry of tropical sea-surface temperature (SST) and precipitation than do models in the LoForc group. Earlier projections from CMIP3, in wh...

Description: The loose sediments in the Yangtze River Delta, the North China Plain, the plain of Northern Jiangsu and other districts in China are of great thickness, complex in structure and abundant in groundwater. Groundwater overexploitation easily results in geological disasters of land subsidence. Aiming at the issues, assessment models coupling exploitable groundwater resources and land subsidence control in regional loose sediments were brought up in this paper. The two models were: (1) a three dimensional groundwater seepage model with land subsidence based on the one dimensional Terzaghi consolidation theory; (2) a three dimensional full coupling model on groundwater seepage and land subsidence based on the Biot consolidation theory to simulate and calculate. It can be used to simulate and calculate the problems in real situations. Thus, the groundwater seepage and land subsidence were coupled together in the model to evaluate the amount of exploitable groundwater under the specifi...

Description: Northwestern Java and Makassar rainfall variations are examined in relation to the tropical air-sea coupled phenomena referred to as the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) and El Nino- Southern Oscillation (ENSO) using retrospective forecasts known as SINTEX-F. The model predicts the rainfall and its variability realistically in September-November (SON) and in general successfully predicts the interannual variation of northwestern Java rainfall up to 3 months ahead and Makassar rainfall up to 6 months ahead. This indicates potential societal benefits of rainfall predictability in Indonesia. Simple correlation analysis based on observations and model predictions reveals significant influence of IOD and ENSO on the northwestern Java and Makassar. However, the correlation between ENSO and the northwestern Java rainfall becomes insignificant if the IOD influence is excluded. Similarly, the correlation between IOD and Makassar rainfall becomes insignificant if excluding the ENSO influence. Th...

Description: Hydrogen storage alloys can serve as good potential fuels for propellant design, by improving the energy and combustion properties. The influence of hydrogen storage alloy (A30) on the combustion properties of ammonium perchlorate/glycidylazide polymer (AP/GAP)-based on propellant were studied. The results showed that A30 could increase the burning rate of propellants by 29.75% and 74.78%, compared with B30 and Al. The combustion model of AP/GAP-based propellant containing different fuel was built. Firstly, A30 reduced the high decomposition temperature and promote condensed phase reaction heat of AP. Secondly, A30 deduced the burning surface temperature. Thirdly, A30 might prove the explosive heat of propellant. Therefore, A30 could greatly improve combustion properties of AP/GAP-based propellant.

Description: The mixtures of mesogen-jacketed liquid crystalline polymers (MJLCP) and epoxy resin (E-51) have been prepared in a certain proportion. The category of the MJLCP is poly{2, 5-bis[(4-butoxyphenyl) oxycarbonyl] styrenes} (PBPCS). Methyl tetrahydro phthalic anhydride (MeTHPA) is served as a curing agent, and N, N-dimethylbenzylamine plays the role of catalyst. Then, based on the curing process, the modified materials have been acquired by casting molding. The effect of PBPCS's improvement has been researched through the mechanical properties test, dynamic thermal mechanical test and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results indicated that PBPCS could apparently improve the mechanical properties of resin E-51. Compared with unmodified materials, the elongation at break and the tensile strength of PBPCS have been improved remarkably through modification. Both mechanical properties of the 4wt% PBPCS/E-51/MeTHPA were enhanced by 48% and 153% separately, and the characteristics of ...

Description: A new type of power source is proposed, which is based on the traffic signal matching method of the dual energy source power supply composed of the batteries and the supercapacitors. First, analyzing the power characteristics is required to meet the excellent dynamic characteristics of EV, studying the energy characteristics is required to meet the mileage requirements and researching the physical boundary characteristics is required to meet the physical conditions of the power supply. Secondly, the parameter matching design with the highest energy efficiency is adopted to select the optimal parameter group with the method of matching deviation. Finally, the simulation analysis of the vehicle is carried out in MATLABSimulink, The mileage and energy efficiency of dual energy sources are analyzed in different parameter models, and the rationality of the matching method is verified.

Description: With the prevalence of advanced sensing and two-way communication technologies, Home Energy Management System (HEMS) has attracted lots of attentions in recent years. This paper proposes a HEMS that optimally schedules the controllable Residential Energy Resources (RERs) in a Time-of-Use (TOU) pricing and high solar power penetrated environment. The HEMS aims to minimize the overall operational cost of the home, and the user’s satisfactions and requirements on the operation of different household appliances are modelled and considered in the HEMS. Further, a new biological self-aggregation intelligence based optimization technique previously proposed by the authors, i.e., Natural Aggregation Algorithm (NAA), is applied to solve the proposed HEMS optimization model. Simulations are conducted to validate the proposed method.

Description: This paper puts forth a rolling modification strategy for day-ahead scheduling of electric power system with wind power, which takes the operation cost increment of unit and curtailed wind power of power grid as double modification functions. Additionally, an improved Nondominated Neighbor Immune Algorithm (NNIA) is proposed for solution. The proposed rolling scheduling model has further improved the operation cost of system in the intra-day generation process, enhanced the system’s accommodation capacity of wind power, and modified the key transmission section power flow in a rolling manner to satisfy the security constraint of power grid. The improved NNIA algorithm has defined an antibody preference relation model based on equal incremental rate, regulation deviation constraints and maximum & minimum technical outputs of units. The model can noticeably guide the direction of antibody evolution, and significantly speed up the process of algorithm convergence to final solut...

Description: Rotating stall is a common unstable flow phenomenon in centrifugal pumps, which usuallyoccurs in part-load conditions. Rotating stall will cause performance instability when thepump is running, and even excite the resonance of the whole pump system in someextreme cases. In this paper, the stall phenomena at part-load conditions have beeninvestigated by CFDsimulation for a centrifugal pump. The CFD results have beencompared with the experiments, including characteristic curves, internal flow structures andcorresponding frequency spectrum analyses. Furthermore, a parameter named theblockage coefficient for the pump impeller passage is put forward to quantitativelyevaluate the magnitude of stall. The large-scale vortex in the stalled channel is defined as astall cell.At the operation condition Q=0.35Q 0 , five rotating stall cells can be observedin the impeller, which propagate among different impeller channels with a rotatingfrequency lower than that of the impeller. From ...

Description: With flexible structure and excellent performance, pulsating heat pipes (PHP) are regarded as a great solution to distribute cooling power for cryocoolers. The experiments on PHPs with cryogenic fluids have been carried out, indicating their efficient performances in cryogenics. There are large differences in physical properties between the fluids at room and cryogenic temperature, resulting in their different heat transfer and oscillation characteristics. Up to now, the numerical investigations on cryogenic fluids have rarely been carried out. In this paper, the model of the closed-loop PHP with multiple liquid slugs and vapor plugs is performed with nitrogen and hydrogen as working fluids, respectively. The effects of heating wall temperature on the performance of close-looped PHPs are investigated and compared with that of water PHP.
