Description: In southern China, the inflow of water to wastewater treatment plants has a lower concentration of organic matter. This causes treatment plants to face issues in the denitrification and phosphorus removal processes such as deficient carbon sources, high energy consumption, and unstable nitrogen removal. To resolve these issues, we propose the reconstruction of the internal reflux port, improvement of the internal reflux ratio to 200%, the addition of carbon source to anoxic zone, and the addition of phosphorus removal agents in secondary settling tank. The results of study show significantly improved efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus removal, which ensures the stability of subsequent supply of reused water.

Description: The onset of transient convection in non-Newtonian liquid immersing porous media was simulated using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) package for the thermal boundary condition of Fixed Surface Temperature (FST). Most of the simulated values of stability criteria were found to be in good agreement with the predicted and theoretical values of transient critical Rayleigh number for non-Newtonian liquid defined by Tan and Thorpe (1992) for power-law fluids. The critical transient Rayleigh numbers for convection in porous media were found to be in good agreement with theoretical values by using apparent viscosity µapp at zero shear. The critical time and critical depth for transient heat conduction were then determined accurately that

Description: Nanostructured spinel NiCo 2 O 4 was synthesized via a facile and effective microwave promoted precipitation method with a simple post-calcination treatment. The crystalline and textural structure and morphology of the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller techniques. The influence of several parameters on the morphology of NiCo 2 O 4 , such as Ni/Co mole ratio, amount of precipitation agent urea, amount of ethylene glycol (EG), were investigated, and the optimal reaction conditions (Ni/Co = 1.0:2.5, urea 0.30 g, and EG 30 ml) were obtained. Under the optimal reaction conditions, the prepared spinel NiCo 2 O 4 has a regular porous nanosheet structure. The nanosheet spinel NiCo 2 O 4 possesses a high surface area of 124.8 m 2 /g, a narrow pore size distribution of 3–10 nm, and a mean pore diameter of 5.4 nm.

Description: China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor is a key strategic area that China, Mongolia, and Russia are all dedicated to developing. However, China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor cover three countries, and passes through multiple geographical units, and there are huge differences in economic, social, and ecological development within the regions. The construction of China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor has many potential risks. Therefore, this paper studied the current socio-economic and environmental situation of main regions along the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor, including Primorski Krai, Khabarovsk Krai, Amur oblast of Fareast Region, Irkutsk oblast, Zabaykalsky Krai and Republic of Buryatia of Baikal region and Novosibirsk region, Mongolia, and Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang of Northeast China. Then we revealed the main ecological environment risks, and put forward green development mode to achieve sustainable socio-ecological-economic development of the cor...

Description: The tundish with channel type inducting heating is usually used to stabilize the superheat of molten steel, and remove the non-metallic inclusions. In order to research the transfer characteristics comprehensively, A mathematical model including electromagnetic field, flow and heat transfer is established to investigate the distribution of magnetic flux density, electromagnetic force (EMF), joule heat, flow and temperature field. The results indicate that the effective area of electromagnetic field mainly contains the channels, moreover, the region near the side walls contacting with channels also belongs to it. Therefore, the EMF generated in this area affects the flow pattern in pouring chamber and distribution chamber, and the pinch force produced in the channels also makes the molten steel rotate strongly. A comparison of flow field between the tundishs with and without induction heating implies that compared with the EMF, the thermal buoyancy has little influence on the flo...

Description: Petroleum-based plastic pollution has been a global environmental concern for decades. The obvious contrast between the remarkable durability of the plastics and their short service time leads to the increasing accumulation of plastic wastes in the environment. A cost-effective, sustainable strategy to solve the problem should focus on source control and clean up. Polystyrene (PS) wastes, a recalcitrant plastic polymer, are among the wide spread man-made plastic pollutants. Destruction of PS wastes can be achieved using various abiotic methods such as incineration but such methods release potential air pollution and generation of hazardous by-products. Biodegradation and bioremediation has been proposed for years. Since the 1970’s, the microbial biodegradation of plastics, including PS, has been evaluated with mixed and isolated cultures from different sources such as activated sludge, trash, soil, and manure. To date, PS biodegradation by these microbial cultures is still quite...

Description: Sleep plays a significant role in human health. Along with the emergency of diseases related to sleep, sleep monitoring is becoming a hotspot. Traditionally, Polysomnography (PSG) is considered as the gold standard for sleep monitoring, but it is expensive, time-consuming, and uncomfortable, especially not ideal for long-term sleep studies. Thus, exploring alternative sleep monitoring method has drawn much attention of researchers. Currently most of the sleep monitoring methods require complicated signals and feature extraction process. However, this paper innovatively proposes a method using simple signal of heart rate and respiration rate, and integrating the prior knowledge of experts to simplify the feature extraction process, which can make the subsequent classifier distinguish wake state and sleep state easily. In this paper, we used multi-layer neural network as a classifier, getting a Cohen’s kappa value of 0.739, and the overall accuracy of classifying sleep and wake st...
