Description: The automotive assembly plant in a manufacturing environment consists of conveying systems and robots. Robots with high reliability will ensure no interruption during production. This study is to analyze the individual robot reliability compared to reliability of robots subsystem in series configuration. Availability was computed based on individual robots breakdown data. Failures due to robots breakdown often occurred during the operations. Actual maintenance data for a period of seven years were used for the analysis. Incorporation of failures rate and mean time between failures yield the reliability computation with the assumption of constant failure rate. Result from the analysis based on 5000 operating hours indicated reliability of series configuration of robots in a subsystem decreased to 2.8% in comparison to 38% reliability of the individual robot with the lowest reliability. The calculated lowest availability of the robots is 99.41%. The robot with the lowest reliabilit...

Description: As increasing of agricultural and industrial activities each year has led to an increasing in demand for energy. Possibility in the future, the country was not able to offer a lot of energy and power demand. This means that we need to focus on renewable energy to supply the demand for energy. Energy harvesting is among a method that can contribute on the renewable energy. MHD power generator is a new way to harvest the energy especially Ocean wave energy. An experimental investigation was conducted to explore performance of MHD generator. The effect of intensity of NaCl Solution (Sea Water), flow rate of NaCl solution, magnetic strength and magnet position to the current produce was analyzed. The result shows that each factor is give a significant effect to the current produce, because of that each factor need to consider on develop of MHD generator to harvest the wave energy as an alternative way to support the demand for energy.

Description: Thallium is a toxic metal that introduced into the environment mainly as a waste from the production of zinc, cadmium, and lead and by combustion of coal. Thallium causes gastrointestinal irritation and nerve damage when people are exposed to it for relatively short period of time. For long term, thallium has the potential to cause the following effects: change in blood chemistry, damage to liver, kidney, intestinal and testicular tissue, and hair loss. In this work a membrane was prepared by use of 4'–nitrobenzo –18–crown–6 (4'NB18C6) as an ion carrier, polyvinylchloride (PVC) as a matrix, and diocthylphetalate (DOP) as a plasticizer for making an ion selective electrode for measurement of Tl + cation in solutions. The amount of 4'-nitrobenzo-18C6 and polyvinylchloride were optimized in the preparation of the membrane. The response of the electrode was Nernstian within the concentration range 1.0 × 10 −8 to 1.0 × 10 −1 M. This sensor displays a drif...

Description: Presently, the application of Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) technique in forest inventory is becoming widely spread due its high level of accuracy. It is able to provide precise and detailed tree attributes. This study aims to determine tree attributes from point cloud data captured from TLS and to validate the estimated tree attributes by using the conventional method of tree measurement. These attributes include diameter at breast height (DBH) of the tree, tree height, crown base height and average crown spread. They were estimated from both the TLS and conventional techniques. The DBH was estimated using the cylinder fitting model while tree height, crown base height and average crown spread were measured manually from the Cyclone software. Finally, this study has shown that TLS is a reliable technique for tree inventory and can be applied in forest management for easy, fast, and efficient estimation of forest biomass.

Description: The process of globalization and urbanization is growing rapidly in Southeast Asia. In Malaysia, one of the fastest growing areas is in Langat Basin, Selangor. Outrageous process the city to the periphery is now growing towards the southern corridor. This article discusses the use of geographical information system to spatially analyze the development of the built-up area in the north of Selangor. The purpose is to identify areas experiencing high-intensity development. The development of the built-up area has affected the environment, society and economic development of the area. The result shows rapid development has increased pressure to the Langat basin since the 1990s. In 1996 the built-up area is about 23017.8 square km. It had increased to 119587 sq km in 2016. This shows that developed areas had increased 40.70% over the period of 20 years from 1996 to 2016. This indicates that the area has been experiencing high development pressure over the period. More importantly, th...

Description: Objective: To asses the protective effect of phenolic extract of cyperus rotundus rhizomes on biochemical in isoproterenol induced myocardial infraction. Methods: Myocardial infarction was induced in rats by intraperitoneally injection of isoproterenol (85mg/kg) for two consecutive days at an interval of 24 h. Rats were treated with phenolic extract of cyperus rotundus rhizomes at two doses (15mg/kg, 30 mg/kg) for period 21 days and isoproterenol was injected on the 21 th and 22 th day. At the end of experiment i.e. on the 23 th day biochemical changes were monitored from control and experimental groups. Results: ISO injected rats showed a significant increase in d-dimer levels. In addition, it also exhibited alteration in the levels of electrolytes (Na + and Cl − ). It also showed significant decrease in level of K + . Pretreatment with phenolic extract of cyperus rotundus rhizomes significantly prev...

Description: This paper aims to improve the accuracy of a three degree-of-freedom surgery robot by means of calibration. The robot consists of a parallel Remote Center of Motion (RCM) mechanism which is designed for craniotomy surgery. The calibration method is based on the forward kinematic approach, which uses a nonlinear optimization model. The Levenberg-Marquaridt method is used as the optimization technique and the loss function is defined by the least square definition. Sixty experimental data are used for the optimization process, the data are obtained using a Leica total station camera to measure the end-effector position, another sixty measurement data are also obtained to use in the evaluation process. Seven kinematic parameters are considered for the optimization process. After the optimization process the loss function reduced to 0.0002453 square millimeters.

Description: The main goal of this work is to study the effect of different concentration level of alkaline solution for oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) fibre structure. As to achieve this objective, the OPEFB fibres were treated with 2 hours of soaking time with 3%, 5%, 7%, and 10% of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) concentration portion. The single test for treated and untreated fibers was then carried out according to the ASTM D3822-07 standard. Next, the surfaces of the fibres prior and after the treatment were observed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) TM3000. The result shows that the 3% of the NaOH concentration exhibits better tensile strength compared to the other concentrations and untreated fiber.

Description: The dissimilar metal joints of stainless and medium carbon steel have been emerged as a structural joint for various industrial applications which provides good combination of mechanical properties like strength, corrosion resistance with lower cost. This paper concerned with the growth of adhesive joint technique since adhesive joint has the applicability to joint wide variety of engineering materials. This study is to investigate the significance of factors in dissimilar AISI 304/1045 butt-joint specimen tensile strength by using Taguchi method and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The joining strength was evaluated with manufacturing factors of abrasive paper, heat treatment and adhesive thickness. It was obtained that abrasive paper has significant effect on adhesive joint strength while heat treatment effect is insignificant. Nevertheless, the joint strength decreased with increment of adhesive thickness.

Description: Children with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) often vulnerable to fracture even on their daily basic tasks. The unpredicted fracture leads to intramedullary surgery. This study aims to investigate the fracture risk in children with OI in daily basic tasks including standing, walking, and jumping. Ten models of OI finite elements were reconstructed based on the radiography CT image of enrolled OI patients. An actual body weight of OI patient was used as the main force acting vertically towards the femoral head and then the fracture risk was observed. In standing and walking configuration, all ten OI models were found able to sustain the acted load. Whereas in jumping configuration, all OI models suffered to become fracture. Early prediction of fracture risk could help medical personnel and OI patients from fall or injury.
