Description:
New carbon particles, carbon wool, were utilized as conducting additives for the cathode composite, and the electrochemical properties of the cathode composite were examined. The carbon wool particles exhibit good conductivity (~10 0 S m −1 ), because they have large fraction (approximately 80%) of sp 2 graphite-like component and three-dimensional network structure. Partial replacement of acetylene black with carbon wool has no affect on the low current rate performance but a negative influence on high current rate performance. However, a small addition of carbon wool to the appropriate amount of acetylene black leads to the improvement of high rate capability without a significant reduction of the cathode density. Therefore, it may give us a possibility to obtain the cathode having both high density and high power capability.
