    Notizen: A TLM nodal structure suitable for modelling the propagation of transient stresses is described. The nodal structure is analysed algebraically using the analogy between TLM and discrete state space control theory. A numerical implementation based on this nodal structure is validated by comparing results generated using the TLM model with those produced using the finite difference approach for the case of pressure applied to a semi-infinite plate.

    Notizen: An analogy is described between the TLM algorithm and discrete state-space control theory. The analogy is used to derive the characteristic equations corresponding to parametrized model structures. Characteristic equations corresponding to several widely used node structures are derived by this means and found to be consistent with the observed behaviour of corresponding TLM models. An example is given of the use of the analogy in teh predictive mode.

    Notizen: Redundancy in the simplest form of a two-dimensional TLM network is identified and a method of eliminating it is described. Results obtained using the non-redundant algorithm are compared with those derived from the standard, redundant algorithm. The non-redundant approach is extended to deal with non-uniform elemental capacitance; a cylindrical geometry is taken as an example of this. The scope for and benefits of rendering TLM diffusion models non-redundant are discussed.
