Description: Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) have been used for end-stage heart failure patients as a therapeutic option. The aortic valve plays a critical role in heart failure and its treatment with a LVAD. The cardiovascular-LVAD model is often used to investigate the physiological demands required by patients and predict the hemodynamic of the native heart supported with a LVAD. As it is a “bridge-to-recovery” treatment, it is important to maintain appropriate and active dynamics of the aortic valve and the cardiac output of the native heart, which requires that the LVAD pump be adjusted so that a proper balance between the blood contributed through the aortic valve and the pump is maintained. In this paper, we investigate how the pump power of the LVAD pump can affect the dynamic behaviors of the aortic valve for different levels of activity and different severities of heart failure. Our objective is to identify a critical value of the pump power (i.e., breakpoint) to ensure that the LVAD pump does not take over the pumping function in the cardiovascular-pump system and share the ejected blood with the left ventricle to help the heart to recover. In addition, the hemodynamic often involves variability due to patients’ heterogeneity and the stochastic nature of the cardiovascular system. The variability poses significant challenges to understanding dynamic behaviors of the aortic valve and cardiac output. A generalized polynomial chaos (gPC) expansion is used in this work to develop a stochastic cardiovascular-pump model for efficient uncertainty propagation, from which it is possible to rapidly calculate the variance in the aortic valve opening duration and the cardiac output in the presence of variability. The simulation results show that the gPC-based cardiovascular-pump model is a reliable platform that can provide useful information to understand the effect of the LVAD pump on the hemodynamic of the heart.

Description: Optimizing average path length (APL) by adding shortcut edges has been widely discussed in connection with social networks, but the relationship between network diameter and APL is generally ignored in the dynamic optimization of APL. In this paper, we analyze this relationship and transform the problem of optimizing APL into the problem of decreasing diameter to 2. We propose a mathematic model based on a memetic algorithm. Experimental results show that our algorithm can efficiently solve this problem as well as optimize APL.

Description: The influence of size effect on the hydromechanical behavior of rock mass has long been recognized. As a result, analysis of the rock mass size effect has been developed. However, when conducting size effect studies, the representativeness of the sample is less considered. Therefore, combining the existing statistical methods and sampling methods, a comprehensive representative sampling method for rock mass is present. In this method, a large number of sample statistics of different sizes are provided in the progressive coverage method; then, the plane density of the track length is defined as the value of stratification to perform stratified sampling for representative samples. Furthermore, it is applied to a joint network model generated in accordance with the actual situation and compared with those of other methods. The sampling results show that the proposed method can provide a certain reference value for studying the scale-dependent behavior of rock mass mechanical parameters.

Description: As the externalized carrier of intrinsic value, value decision-making is an important factor affecting the social value system. As an old Chinese saying goes, “A friend in need is a friend indeed,” crisis environment provides the background for the conflicts of multiple values, while individual social value orientation (SVO) determines the ranking of the value states. This paper defined the SVO types by means of Slider Measure method on the basis of environment description, constructed a decision-making game model in accordance with SVO differences, and finally analysed the mechanism of people’s decision-making. Taking the epidemic situation as the background, this paper conducted an empirical analysis with the sample of college students. The results showed that the most SVO types of college students were prosocial orientation, followed by individualistic orientation, altruistic orientation, and competitive orientation. In the crisis environment, individual SVO type and decision-making constituted a mapping relationship. There was an equilibrium point in the decision of prosocial orientation, and the dominant decision of altruistic orientation or individualistic orientation is relatively stable.

Description: In order to study the regularity of overburden deformation and mining pressure changes in the stope. Take the geological conditions of Hanglaiwan coal mine in Yushen mining area as the background, a 3000 mm×1340 mm×200 mm physical similar material model was established in laboratory. Eight fiber Bragg grating sensors were embedded in the model, used to monitor the movement and deformation of the overburden key stratum and the change of mining abutment pressure in real time and then to determine the influencing factors and strain transfer coefficients of the fiber grating through theoretical analysis and calibration experiments. The results show the following. (1) The changes in value, position, and shape of the strain can reflect the dynamic evolution process of bending deformation, breaking, and rotation of the key strata. When the key layer breaks for the first time, the strain curve shows a peak shape; when the key layer breaks periodically, the strain curve of the fiber grating sensor showed a plateau shape for a period of time. (2) The strain curve has a good corresponding relationship with the change in supporting pressure. When the strain curve of the fiber Bragg grating sensor was at the trough stage, the abutment pressure was at the peak stage, with the increase of sensor buried height, and the supporting pressure and the strain value had a linear relationship within the range of the advanced abutment pressure. The conclusion shows that the fiber Bragg grating sensor monitoring technology has good effect on the internal strain and key supporting pressure monitoring of the overburden in the model test; it provides new monitoring methods and means for the model tests.

Description: Out-fashioned goaf is the protective structure for mining the upper residual coal, and its stability is the core problem in mining the upper residual coal. According to the upward mining demand for No. 5 coal seam above the out-fashioned goaf in Baizi Coal Mine, a new method is proposed to determine the upward mining safety. According to the analysis of the actual situation of the mine, the coal pillar and suspended roof in the out-fashioned goaf are taken as the objects. Furthermore, a “coal pillar-suspended roof” system model based on the variable load induced by abutment pressure of upper coal seam mining is established. After the mechanical model was solved, the parameter acquisition method of the model was established. The basic parameters of Baizi Coal Mine were considered to determine the feasibility of mining residual coal above out-fashioned goaf. And the effects of variable load on the coal pillar and suspended roof stability were analyzed. The results show that the upper No. 5 coal seam in Baizi Coal Mine can be mined safely. Compared to the traditional method, which simplifies all the upper loads to uniform loads, the new method is safer. The system stability of the suspended roof and coal pillar is influenced by “a/L” and “L.” Axial stress curves of the coal pillar and suspended roof appear nearly parabolic with “a/L” varying. Their maximum values are obtained when the “a/L” value is around 0.5∼0.6. In this situation, the combination structure is most easy to to be damaged. The ratio q′/q has a linear relationship with all stresses of the system model. The failure sequence of the system model is determined by analyzing the relationship between the tensile strength of the suspended roof and compressive strength of the coal pillar. This study provides a reference case for coal resources upward mining under similar conditions.

Description: In view of difficult problems such as excavation, segment simulation, deformation, and force measurement in the small-scale model testing of deep composite stratum TBM tunnel, the TBM simulation experimental device, the model segment ring prefabrication device, and the digital photogrammetry technology were comprehensively adopted. Also, the calculation methods were proposed. The analysis of the deformation characteristics as well as rupture of surrounding rock revealed those space-time effects: (1) When no support existed, the space-time effect of the surrounding rock deformation was concentrated in the following case: with the development of time, the deformation of surrounding rock starts from the sides of the arch waist at the junction of the composite stratum, while four arcs were derived and shear sliding occurred, resulting in overall collapse and destruction. (2) Following the support application, the space-time effect of the surrounding rock deformation was concentrated on the three stages of the interaction between the surrounding rock and the support, namely, the preliminary stage, the equilibrium process, and the instability state. The spatial effect was concentrated in the area where the surrounding rock was deformed and destroyed. The most severe area was the shallow surrounding rock, while the sub-violent area was the corner of the sidewall.

Description: In this paper, a novel moving load model for 2D crane systems of which the trolley has two axles is proposed. Based on this model, the dynamics of a 2D gantry crane, which is modelled as a simply supported Euler–Bernoulli beam carrying a two-axle trolley from which a single-pendulum payload is suspended, is studied. The proposed model was verified by comparing with two models in existing papers and can be considered as an extended version of comparative models. Then, the effect of the trolley’s axle base on the dynamic responses of the beam is studied. It can be observed that increasing the length of trolley’s axle base will decrease the deflection of the beam, and a larger initial swing angle will cause a larger deflection of the beam without controlling the swing of the payload.

Description: Automatic identification for vehicles is an important topic in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and the vehicle logo is one of the most important characteristics of a vehicle. Therefore, vehicle logo detection and recognition are important research topics. Because of the problems that the area of a vehicle logo is too small to be detected and the dataset is too small to train for complex scenes, considering the speed of recognition and the robustness to complex scenes, we use deep learning methods which are based on data optimization for vehicle logo in complex scenes. We propose three augmentation strategies for vehicle logo data: cross-sliding segmentation method, small frame method, and Gaussian Distribution Segmentation method. For the problem of small sample size, we use cross-sliding segmentation method, which can effectively increase the amount of data without changing the aspect ratio of the original vehicle logo image. To expand the area of the logos in the images, we develop the small frame method which improves the detection results of the small area vehicle logos. In order to enrich the position diversity of vehicle logo in the image, we propose Gaussian Distribution Segmentation method, and the result shows that this method is very effective. The F1 value of our method in the YOLO framework is 0.7765, and the precision is greatly improved to 0.9295. In the Faster R-CNN framework, the F1 value of our method is 0.7799, which is also better than before. The results of experiments show that the above optimization methods can better represent the features of the vehicle logos than the traditional method, and the experimental results have been improved.

Description: Kinesin family member 20A (KIF20A) has been recently reported to be upregulated and associated with increased invasiveness and metastasis in several malignancies. However, the role of KIF20A in colorectal cancer (CRC) is still unclear. This study is aimed at investigating the potential roles of KIF20A in the development of CRC. The results of bioinformatics analysis, immunohistochemical staining, and Western blot analysis showed that KIF20A was overexpressed in CRC tissues compared with adjacent normal tissues. High expression of KIF20A in CRC tissues was associated with depth of invasion, lymphatic node metastasis, distant metastasis, and TNM stage. Moreover, the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that CRC patients with high KIF20A expression had poor prognoses. Cox regression analysis revealed that KIF20A was an independent prognostic factor in patients with CRC. Further studies suggested that knockdown of KIF20A was able to reduce cell proliferation and migration by inhibiting the JAK/STAT3 pathway. Taken together, we propose that KIF20A plays a critical role in the tumorigenesis and tumor progression of colorectal cancer and could represent a potential therapeutic target for CRC.
