Notes: This paper focuses on the design of an inexpensive and accurate range scanner for automatic acquisition of a CAD model of a manufactured part by using two-dimensional images to determine a digitized three-dimensional shape. In the developed approach, the object is passed at a speed of 4?cm/s through a single linear laser stripe and forty continuous images are captured into the frame memory of the host computer for subsequent processing. A major problem that is encountered in the design of laser stripe scanner is the specula reflection, which can be mitigated by the developed approach. Six center-locating algorithms are described, which are central to the developed approach. These algorithms are able to achieve sub-pixel accuracy. The center of mass algorithm that uses three points, gives the best repeatability over the other algorithms. The center of mass algorithm that uses intensity threshold, provides the best linearity over the other algorithms.

Notes: The purpose of this paper is to find a better B2C environment through collecting what information and supporting interfaces are provided on current B2C web sites. We build a checklist based on the framework of B2C consumer behavior model and used it to evaluate current B2C web sites among three categories: purchasing process, types of products, and the source of web sites. The results indicated that poor information or supporting interface design was provided on web sites during the "evaluating and comparing" process. More information or supporting interface design was provided on the internet bookstore, less information or supporting interface design was provided on web sites that sell tickets and flowers. The local web sites provided more information or supporting interface design than international web sites. The results also showed that the difference is highly significant.

Notes: Purpose - To review a newly developed PCB fabrication process based on a parallel lamination technique. Design/methodology/approach - This paper has been written to introduce the SAVIA process, a new parallel lamination technique for PCB fabrication. The basic concept of the SAVIA process has been described along with the individual process steps and the reliability issues. The advantages of SAVIA process have been also discussed in both economical and technological aspects. Findings - It was found that the parallel lamination technique, a key process for SAVIA, was not only highly flexible and reliable but also a cost-effective fabrication method for high performance PCB. With the SAVIA process, manufacturing lead-times can be substantially reduced due to the nature of the parallel processing. It was also confirmed that a highly reliable metal alloy interconnection was created between the core and the adhesive layers during the lamination process. The formed metal alloy contacts showed excellent electrical and physical characteristics. The between layers was precise. Originality/value - The value of this paper is to introduce a novel PCB fabrication process based on a parallel lamination technique that is superior to conventional build-up processes from both technological and economical viewpoints. By applying a parallel lamination technique, it is expected that fabrication costs can be lowered due to reductions in manufacturing lead-time.

Notes: A modified hybrid ARQ type-II retransmission technique is presented. In this scheme, only the originally punctured bits are transmitted instead of full retransmission, if necessary. Compared to Narayanan's retransmission scheme, the structure of the modified turbo encoder and decoder is simpler. Simulation results demonstrated that a frame error rate reduction can be obtained. At the same time, the effective code rate remained relatively high.

Notes: This paper discusses the implementation method of open router based on active network, and describes the measure to assure the security of network. The active network can supply the clients with the new services by loading new code on the router in active network, but not changing the hardware.

Notes: Purpose - To investigate the relationship between organizational characteristics and enterprise information portal (EIP) adoption, and the relationship between EIP implementation and e-business performance. Design/methodology/approach - This study uses questionnaire survey method to collect data for statistical analysis. Findings - The result of analysis shows that: between organizations that have and those that have not adopted EIP, significant differences exist in the maturity and familiarity of information technologies, and firm size; the implementation of EIP in terms of application degree, implementation type, integration ability, and users of EIP, will significantly influence e-business performance; the relationship between the application degree of EIP and e-business performance will be enhanced by higher e-business implementation; the relationship between the implementation type of EIP and e-business performance will be intervened by higher e-business implementation. Practical implications - Corporations may create great business value by establishing EIP project. Originality/value - This paper provides a model to understand the relationship between EIP implementation and e-business performance and helps corporations evaluate EIP project.
