Notes: [Auszug] The amount of fall-out deposited is normally a function of rainfall. Local areas with high precipitation on the northern hemisphere have thus shown by far the largest contamination. This is the case in certain districts on the west coast of Norway having a yearly precipitation ranging up to 3,500 ...

Notes: [Auszug] Previously, Bloom and Nicander3 have described a method for fixation of sperm material from the cauda epididymis. They placed drops of the concentrated sperm suspensions obtained from this source on small paper strips which were then floated on to the surface of the fixative solution. After ...

Notes: [Auszug] In a previous investigation of the ultrastructure of the sperm head in the bull a characteristic structure, that is, the apical body, situated at the front edge of the galea capitis, has been described1. In order to obtain a better understanding of the functional mechanism of this apical body it ...

Notes: [Auszug] More recently we have attempted to get the semen samples centrifuged as soon after the ejaculation as possible, and two specimens have been fixed (1 per cent osmium tetroxide) within 30 min. In such freshly prepared material the following new observations on the head of the bull sperm have been ...

Notes: Abstract The response by a gaseous disc to perturbations is investigated. Spectral analysis of the resulting pattern indicates that information about the nature of the perturber is maintained only if the perturbation is strong.

Notes: Abstract On the basis of numerical experiments onn-body binding energies we tentatively consider the following hypothesis: If the distance between two galaxies forming a binary system isa g, and a cluster of galaxies that is substructured in a hierarchical fashion onall scales froma g upwards has a total massM, then the total gravitational binding energy of the cluster isΩ TH = −GM 2/2a g . As an explanation for ‘missing’ masses up to order 100 we test this hypothesis in three different ways, finding remarkable agreement with observation, with no need for physical missing mass.

Notes: Abstract The influence of subclustering in rich clusters of galaxies is examined using results from numericaln-body experiments. It is found that, under some conditions, the standard virial theorem is satisfied. No physical missing mass is needed because its role is replaced by the gravitational energy of the subclustering. We find that, in the Coma cluster, this effect masquerades as a ‘missing’ mass about 7 times that of the physical mass, so that the apparent extant virial discrepancy (M VT/M≃8) in this cluster is explained.

Notes: Abstract A gas-dynamical model of gas streams around close binary systems is given. The velocity feld and the density distribution are determined for different parameter ranges. The results succeed in explaining the formation of a ring and a disk around the accreting component. The models furthermore reveal the existence of a tongue of matter extending from the inner Lagrangian point and a jet perpendicular to the system axis.

Notes: Summary In creeping flows of thin films, the capillarity can play a dominant role. In this paper, the creeping film flow down an inclined plane with an edge is considered. The influence of the capillarity on the velocity and the film surface is studied analytically, numerically and experimentally.

Notes: Summary The changes of mechanical properties of filled polymers and their dependence on deformation history are the subject of this paper. For most of filled polymers in practical use, the theory of linear viscoelasticity cannot be applied, even at small deformations. In this work, samples of glass bead filled polybutadiene rubber with different filler levels were investigated at small strains (ε〈10%). The evolution of the relaxation modulus and Poisson's ratio was observed in cyclic experiments, which were also applied in inducing a defined deformation history for the succeeding relaxation experiments. In these experiments, the relaxation modulus and Poisson's ratio were measured as functions of time, with strain, strain rate, filler level and the preceeding deformation history as parameters. The results indicate dewetting as the main reason for the changes of the mechanical properties of the filled materials.
