Notes: Abstract The effect of calcium chloride and sodium chloride on the electrochemical properties of various grades of aluminium namely 2s, 3s, 26s and 57s in alkaline citrate solution has been examined by studying the self corrosion, open circuit potential, anodic polarization and anode efficiency. It has been found that among the different grades of aluminium the 57s grade is found to be the most promising galvanic anode material in the 4N NaOH containing 20% wt/vol. of sodium citrate and 2.5% wt/vol. of CaCl2·2H2O. Further, it has been found that the above alkaline citrate electrolyte required for aluminium air batteries can be prepared from tap water, saline water and even sea water. The presence of chloride ions in the electrolyte, even up to a concentration of 2.5% wt/vol. as CaCl2·2H2O, is not found to alter the electrochemical properties of the different grades of aluminium as anode materials, though 57s is found to be the best.

Notes: Abstract The kinetics of the addition of iodine monochloride (ICl) to some vinyl compounds in nitrobenzene solvent was investigated. In all cases the reaction follows second order dependence on ICl and first order on the substrate, making the total order three. Rate constants were measured for each substrate at 20°, 30°, 40° and 50°C.Arrhenius plots were made from which activation energies were evaluated. Other kinetic and thermodynamic parameters are reported. A suitable mechanism is proposed for the reaction and based on this, the various parameters are discussed. Solvent effects are discussed and the data with nitrobenzene and acetic acid solvents are compared.

Notes: Abstract. Cadmium sulphide nanocrystals were grown at room temperature (20 °C) under arachidic acid monolayers floating over an aqueous solution of CdCl2 inside an enclosed Langmuir-Blodgett set-up, through slow infusion of H2S gas. X-ray diffraction spectra suggest an oriented growth of the crystallites. The particle sizes were found to increase with duration of exposure to the H2S gas. Atomic force microscopy indicated that the particles were nearly circular pellets with uniform morphology throughout. In Raman spectra, the FWHM of the LO phonon was found to be large (≈20 cm-1) for all the films grown with different exposure times in H2S gas, and was found to reduce to 8 cm-1 after annealing a typical sample at 500 °C for 45 min.

Notes: Summary The Leipholz column which is having the Young modulus and mass per unit length as stochastic processes and also the distributed tangential follower load behaving stochastically is considered. The non self-adjoint differential equation and boundary conditions are considered to have random field coefficients. The standard perturbation method is employed. The non self-adjoint operators are used within the regularity domain. Full covariance structure of the free vibration eigenvalues and critical loads is derived in terms of second order properties of input random fields characterizing the system parameter fluctuations. The mean value of critical load is calculated using the averaged problem and the corresponding eigenvalue statistics are sought. Through the frequency equation a transformation is done to yield load parameter statistics. A numerical study incorporating commonly observed correlation models is reported which illustrates the full potentials of the derived expressions.

Notes: Abstract LetG denote a locally compact group andP(G) [P c (G)] the topological semigroup of absolutely continuous [absolutely continuous and compactly supported] probability measures onG. We say thatG isP-amenable [P c -amenable] if the topological semigroupP(G)[P c (G)] is amenable. Some combinatorial properties of this class of groups are studied. The relationship between amenability andP-amenability ofG is investigated. It is shown that for a connected solvableP c -amenable groupG, G has polynomial growth if, and only if,P c (S)={f∈P c (G)‖suppf⊂S} is amenable for any open subsemigroupS ofG.
