Notes: Abstract Heterocystous N2-fixing, Streptomycin resistant (Het +Nif+Str-R) Nostoc muscorum produces two groups of Kasugamycin resistant (Kas-R) phenotypes: one group showing normal heterocyst frequency and normal aerobic growth with N2 as a nitrogen source, the other group showing loss of growth with N2 as nitrogen source under aerobic growth conditions. Examination of strains showing Kas-R associated loss of aerobic N2 growth shows them to comprise three classes: Class A showing loss of both heterocyst and nitrogenase activity, class B showing formation of heterocyst but no nitrogenase activity and class C lacking heterocyst but containing microaerobic nitrogenase activity. The three classes of mutants revert to aerobic prototrophy with almost similar frequency of about 10−6 suggesting them to have arisen as a result of single mutational events. Their reversion to prototrophy is simultaneously accompanied by the loss of Kas-R phenotype. All the phenotypic revertants in general appear more or less similar to the parental strain in respect to heterocyst formation, aerobic N2 growth and Kasugamycin sensitivity (Kas-S).

Notes: Abstract A structural model of demand and supply of money for the U.S. economy is estimated by the relatively new Simultaneous Transfer Function Method. This approach is motivated by (1) a need to impose valid identifying restrictions on the model and (ii) to facilitate a systematic specification search process. The endogeneity of monetary stock is effectively dealt with at two levels. Policy-wise endogeneity is handled by defining the money supply variable as a ratio of observed and exogenous monetary stock (based on reserves supplied by the Fed). Statistical endogeneity is captured in a Simultaneous Equations System. Empirical results show that commercial banks are able to alter observed monetary stock behavior when the profitability of creating new loans (deposits) increases. This accommodation is, expectedly, fairly small and instantaneous.

Notes: Abstract With the aid of the geometrical properties of a Maxwellian surface (which is spanned by flow and field lines) certain theorems have been established. These theorems shed light on the behaviour of steady, incompressible, hydromagnetic flows admitting complex-lamellar acceleration and simple geodesic motin.

Notes: Abstract Thermal-convective instability through porous medium has been investigated and a criterion for monotonic instability has been derived. The criterion for monotonic instability has been found to hold good in the presence of magnetic field and rotation. The radiative transfer and medium porosity effects have also been discussed on the thermal-convective instability.

Notes: Abstract In this paper it is shown that the motion of magnetofluid is circulation preserving if the magnetic field is in a direction of no variation. Employing the anholonomic geometric results it is proved that for the circulation preserving and complex lamellar motion of magnetofluids, the Lamb surfaces are developables if and only if the magnitude of the vorticity is constant along the streamlines.

Notes: Abstract Kinetic studies of the hexacyanoferrate(III) oxidation of 1-propanol and 2-propanol have been carried out in aqueous alkaline medium. The reaction velocity is of first order with respect to alcohols, alkali and hexacyanoferrate(III). The kinetic data suggest that the oxidation involves the formation of an anion of the substrate undergoes oxidation with hexacyanoferrate(III) via charge transfer process. The free radical thus produced is further oxidised to form the final products.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Das Geschwindigkeitsgesetz der Titelreaktion ist in beiden Fällen erster Ordnung bezüglich Hexacyanoferrat(III).
Notes: Abstract Kinetics of oxidation of xylitol and galactitol by hexacyanoferrate(III) ion in aqueous alkaline medium is reported. The reaction rate is of first order with respect to hexacyanoferrate(III) in each substrate. The reaction is first order at lower concentrations of xylitol and galactitol and tends towards zero order as the concentration increases. Similarly first order kinetics was obtained with respect to hydroxide ion at lower concentrations and tends to lower order at higher concentration in the oxidation of xylitol; in the oxidation of galactitol the reaction is first order with respect to hydroxide ion even up to manyfold variation. The course of reaction has been considered to proceed through the formation of an activated complex between [K Fe(CN)6]2− and substrate anion which decomposes slowly into radical and [K Fe(CN)6]3−. A probable reaction mechanism is proposed.
