Notes: Summary A procedure is described for selection and screening of VA mycorrhizal fungi in pot and field trials. The VA mycorrhizal fungi from 20 farm paddocks with unexpectedly high pasture production were compared withGlomus fasciculatus for ability to stimulate plant growth. The fungi from three soils (F4, F11, and F20) which were 84–142% more effective thanG. fasciculatus at stimulating growth in sterilised soils were then tested for ability to stimulate clover growth in unsterilised soils in pots, and in the field. F4, F11 and F20 were more efficient thanG. fasciculatus and the indigenous mycorrhizal fungi in all except one field soil.

Notes: Abstract We present a density functional for the description of liquid3He properties at zero temperature in a mean field approximation. Its basic ingredients are a zero-range, particle- and spin-density dependent effective interaction of Skyrme type, and a long-range effective interaction of Lennard-Jones type supplemented with a weighted density approximation similar to the one used in the study of classical fluids, to phenomenologically account for short range correlations. After fixing the value of its parameters, the functional yields a good description of the equation of state and Landau parameters (spin symmetric and spin antisymmetric as well) from saturation to solidification densities. The zero sound propagation at finite momentum transfer is quantitatively reproduced up to the Fermi momentum, and qualitatively above it. The surface tension is in agreement with experiment, which makes the functional well suited for3He drop calculations. We describe the structure of drops made of up to 516 atoms. As a novel application, we discuss the possible appearance of triplet pairing in anl-shell of a drop, applying the formalism to the 1j-shell holding up to 30 atoms fromN=169 to 198.
