Both the poloidal magnetic field ( B p ) and radial electric field ( E r ) are significant in magnetic confinement devices. In this paper, a new method was proposed to diagnose both B p and E r at the same time, which was named Laser-accelerated Ion-beam Trace Probe (LITP). This method based on the laser-accelerated ion beam, which has three properties: large energy spread, short pulse lengths, and multiple charge states. LITP can provide the 1D profiles, or 2D images of both B p and E r . In this paper, we present the basic principle and some preliminary theoretical results.
