    Notizen: In the article, the electrical properties of single grains and single grain boundaries in donor doped BaTiO3 ceramics have been investigated. The results show that the grains have no positive temperature coefficient of resistance effect (PTCR effect) if the influence of electrode was neglected. The results also show that different grain boundaries have various PTCR effect. The characteristics of current-voltage do not follow the Heywang model and accord with our modified model. The maximum barrier heights of single grain boundaries are also deduced experimentally. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

    Beschreibung: Monitoring systems for the safety of building structure (SBS) can provide people with important data related to main supporting points in a building and then help people to make a reasonable maintenance schedule. However, more and more data bring a challenge for data management and data mining. In order to meet this challenge, under the framework of Wisdom Web of Things (W2T), we design a monitoring system for the SBS by using the semantic and the multisource data fusion technologies. This system establishes a dynamical data cycle among the physical world (buildings), the social world (humans), and the cyber world (computers) and provides various services in the monitoring process to alleviate engineers’ workload. Furthermore, all data in the cyber world are organized as the raw data, the semantic information, and the multisource knowledge. Based on this organization, we can concentrate on the data fusion from the viewpoints of time, space, and multisensor. At last, a prototype system powered by the semantic platform LarKC is tested from the aspects of sample performance and time consumption. In particular, noisy data (i.e., inconsistent, abnormal, or error data) are detected through the fusion of multisource knowledge, and some rule-based reasoning is conducted to provide personalized service.

    Beschreibung: CoFe 2 O 4 (CFO) thin films are epitaxially grown on Nb doped (001) SrTiO 3 (NSTO) single-crystal substrates by pulsed laser deposition to form Pt/CFO/NSTO heterostructures. These heterostructures exhibit typical bipolar resistive switching effect with maximum switching ratio of 5 × 10 4 , multi-level resistance states, excellent retention, and anti-fatigue properties. When the resistance states of the heterostructures are switched between low resistance state and high resistance state upon applying bias voltages, the saturation magnetization of the CFO films shows corresponding changes associated with the resistive switching. These close correlations between the resistive switching and the magnetization can be attributed to the electrons filling into and releasing from the defect energy levels introduced by oxygen vacancies in the CFO film. These results show potential application in the multi-functional magnetoelectric sensor and non-volatile multi-level resistive switching memory.

    Beschreibung: The irradiation uniformity of a cone-in-shell target directly driven by laser beams has been considered. First, a model is established to include the influence of the cone on laser beam propagation. Then, the irradiation uniformity on the target surface outside the cone during the initial imprinting phase is analyzed, and highly uniform irradiation on the target surface outside the cone is achieved by optimizing the intensity distribution within laser beams, as well as the polar direct drive displacement. As an illustrative example, direct drive irradiation uniformity of a typical cone-in-shell target is improved for Shenguang III laser facility, the illumination non-uniformity is reduced from 5.8% to 1.1%. Irradiation on the cone surface outside the target is also analyzed, and it is found that for the laser-target configuration considered in this work, a gold cone thicker than 50 μ m is needed to avoid shock breakout. Moreover, sensitivity to beam uncertainties (power imbalance and pointing error) is analyzed, indicating that this scheme can tolerate a certain amount of beam errors.

    Beschreibung: In this paper, the properties of acceptor mode in two-dimensional plasma photonic crystals (2D PPCs) composed of the homogeneous and isotropic dielectric cylinders inserted into nonmagnetized plasma background with square lattices under transverse-magnetic wave are theoretically investigated by a modified finite-difference frequency-domain (FDFD) method with supercell technique, whose symmetry of every supercell is broken by removing a central rod. A new FDFD method is developed to calculate the band structures of such PPCs. The novel FDFD method adopts a general function to describe the distribution of dielectric in the present PPCs, which can easily transform the complicated nonlinear eigenvalue equation to the simple linear equation. The details of convergence and effectiveness of proposed FDFD method are analyzed using a numerical example. The simulated results demonstrate that the enough accuracy of the proposed FDFD method can be observed compared to the plane wave expansion method, and the good convergence can also be obtained if the number of meshed grids is large enough. As a comparison, two different configurations of photonic crystals (PCs) but with similar defect are theoretically investigated. Compared to the conventional dielectric-air PCs, not only the acceptor mode has a higher frequency but also an additional photonic bandgap (PBG) can be found in the low frequency region. The calculated results also show that PBGs of proposed PPCs can be enlarged as the point defect is introduced. The influences of the parameters for present PPCs on the properties of acceptor mode are also discussed in detail. Numerical simulations reveal that the acceptor mode in the present PPCs can be easily tuned by changing those parameters. Those results can hold promise for designing the tunable applications in the signal process or time delay devices based on the present PPCs.

    Beschreibung: This paper reports two numerical simulation methods for modeling displacement instabilities around a surface groove in a metal substrate used in nuclear power plant. The amplitude change in the groove, the downward displacement at the base node, and the groove displacement at the periphery were simulated using ABAQUS to compare the results from two methods, as well as the tangential stress in the elements at the groove base and periphery. The comparison showed that for the tangential stress two methods were in close agreement for all thermal cycles. For the amplitude change, the downward displacement, the groove displacement, and the stress distribution, the two methods were in close agreement for the first 3 to 6 thermal cycles. After that, inconsistency increased with the number of thermal cycles. It is interesting that the thermal cycle at which the discrepancy between the two methods began to occur corresponded to a thermally grown oxide (TGO) thickness of 1 μm, which showed the accuracy of the present work over the classic method. It is concluded that the present work’s numerical simulation scheme worked better with a thinner TGO layer than the classic method and could overcome the limitation of TGO thickness by simulating any thickness.

    Beschreibung: Tension-compression asymmetry could be a notable feature in many nanocrystalline (NC) materials. The scientific and practical research on the tension-compression asymmetry may play an important role of improving the mechanical behavior of NC materials. Using large-scale molecular dynamics (MD) simulations at the strain rate of 10 9  s −1 , both tension and compression tests are complemented in twin-structural polycrystalline Ni nanowires (NWs). The MD simulation suggests that twin boundaries spacing (TBS) has an interesting effect on the tension-compression asymmetry. For NW (radius = 9 nm) with different TBSs, the flow stresses are totally higher under compression than under tension. The asymmetry gets a minimum value at a particular TBS. Such results can be explained by the interplay of the work of dislocations mechanism under various TBSs and the free surface in NWs.

    Beschreibung: We report the coexistence of nonvolatile resistive and magnetization switching in Pt/NiO/Nb:SrTiO 3 heterostructures. These structures exhibit bipolar resistive switching (RS) behavior with multilevel RS characteristics, a maximum RS ratio of 10 5 , and stable endurance properties. Under simple application of voltage pulses, the saturation magnetization of the NiO layer increases by up to three times in the different resistance states. This electrical modulation of both the resistive and magnetization switching properties is attributed to the migration of oxygen vacancies and charge trapping and detrapping at the heterojunction interface. Our results provide a pathway towards the electrical switching of both resistance and magnetization, which is likely to be useful for RS and magnetic multifunctional device applications.

    Beschreibung: The atomic structure of Al 90 Sm 10 metallic glass is studied using molecular dynamics simulations. By performing a long sub- T g annealing, we developed a glass model closer to the experiments than the models prepared by continuous cooling. Using the cluster alignment method, we found that “3661” cluster is the dominating short-range order in the glass samples. The connection and arrangement of “3661” clusters, which define the medium-range order in the system, are enhanced significantly in the sub- T g annealed sample as compared with the fast cooled glass samples. Unlike some strong binary glass formers such as Cu 64.5 Zr 35.5 , the clusters representing the short-range order do not form an interconnected interpenetrating network in Al 90 Sm 10, which has only marginal glass formability.

    Beschreibung: Considering the influence of group piles, a prediction model for three-dimensional ground surface settlement induced by circular metro tunnels excavation in incompressible rock masses is proposed based on the stochastic medium theory and the shear displacement method. The surface settlement caused by the metro tunnel opening is divided into two parts. One part is soil mass settlement caused by the metro tunnel opening and calculated by the stochastic medium theory. The other part is the settlement induced by the friction force between the group piles and the soil mass around the metro tunnel cross section and calculated by the shear displacement method. The three-dimensional prediction of the ground surface settlement is obtained by the linear superposition of the two parts. The validation of the proposed prediction approach is proved by comparing with the measured data and the numerical model of the double tunnels under the Puyuan overpass where metro tunnels undercrossed group piles. The effects of buried depth, radial convergences, center distance of double tunnels, position and size of piles, and group piles are analyzed and discussed. The improved prediction approach can be applied to calculate the three-dimensional ground settlement, especially for the metro tunnels crossing through group piles.
