Conclusion In the present paper, we have understood the structural model of water to mean a model whose aim is to reproduce to the maximum extent the complete information on the arrangement of the particles of the liquid (that is, todescribe the coordinates of the particles in a representative realization of its V-structure [5]). In the opinion of the author, this model will be constructed fairly soon. When it is constructed, however, it must not of course be thought that all the problems of the structure of water will be solved. The path from the microscopic model to the calculation or interpretation of the many properties of water and more particularly its solutions is often very complex and cannot always be followed. It is therefore always necessary to have models of water at different levels, giving an abbreviated description of the most complete microscopic information (see the reports presented by Yu. V. Gurikov and A. K. Lyashchenko at the present symposium). The movement along the path towards the construction of a microscopic model, dealt with in the present paper, does not make unnecessary the development of qualitative models of water as an effective means for the interpretation of complex experiments. The quantitative microscopic model, however, occupies a unique position among other simplified qualitative models. It will give them a reliable foundation, making it possible to determine their true significance and limits of applicability.
