Notes: Abstract We say that a real normed lattice is quasi-Baire if the intersection of each sequence of monotonic open dense sets is dense. An example of a Baire-convex space, due to M. Valdivia, which is not quasi-Baire is given. We obtain that E is a quasi-Baire space iff $$(E,T(\mathcal{U}),T((\mathcal{U}^{ - 1} ))$$ is a pairwise Baire bitopological space, where $$\mathcal{U}$$ , is a quasi-uniformity that determines, in L. Nachbin's sense, the topological ordered space E.

Notes: Abstract Rodrigues' extension (1989) of the classical Pták's homomoiphism theorem to a non-necessarily locally convex setting stated that a nearly semi-open mapping between a semi-B-complete space and an arbitrary topoiogical vector space is semi-open. In this paper we study this extension and, as a consequence of the results obtained, provide an improvement of Pták's homomorphism theorem.

Notes: Abstract We have investigated theγ-rays from the decay of 46-min51Mn produced by the50Cr (d, n) reaction. Twelveγ-rays were observed. Theseγ-rays have been incorporated into a level scheme of51Cr with levels at 0, 749.1, 1164.4, 1353.3, 1557.4, 1899.4, 2001.4, 2312.5 and 2829.7 keV. Branching ratios, logft values, and jπ assignments are discussed for these levels. The lifetime of the 749.1 keV level was measured to be T1/2=7.6 ± 0.3 ns by utilizing the51V(p, n γ 51Cr reaction produced by a 3.8 MeV pulsed proton beam. The 749 keV,E2 transition is hindered by a factor of 34 compared to the Weisskopf estimate.

Notes: Abstract We give an example of a sequentially compact non-compact quasipseudometric space, thus finding a negative answer to the problem posed byI. L. Reilly, P. V. Subrahmanyam andM. K. Vamanamurthy in [1].

Notes: Summary The autofluorescence of tissue components in Epon semithin sections depends on the exciting wavelength, section thickness, and the structure under observation. The degree of autofluorescence emission of a given component affects the fluorescence reaction induced by fluorochromes, a feature which must be taken into account when fluorescence microscopy is applied to the study of Epon sections.

Notes: Abstract We present the genotype/phenotype correlation analysis for 16 cystic fibrosis (CF) patients who carry mutation R334W. Current age and age of diagnosis was significantly higher in the R334W/any-mutation group (P 〈 0.05 and P 〈 0.01), compared with the Δ508/Δ508 group. A slightly, but not significantly, worse lung function was found in the R334W/any-mutation group, when compared with the Δ508/Δ508 patients. The proportion of patients with lung colonization with bacterial pathogens was slightly, but not significantly, higher in the R334W/any-mutation group (71.4%), compared with the Δ508/Δ508 or R334W/Δ508 groups (55.5%). None of the R334W patients had meconium ileus but 60% were pancreatic insufficient (PI), a significantly lower proportion (P ≪ 0.001) than Δ508/Δ508 patients. Two R334W/N1303K compound heterozygous sisters were PI but discrepant for lung function. Two groups of three sibs with genotype R334W/Δ508 showed interfamilial discordant clinical data for lung and pancreatic function. The data provided here for mutation R334W demonstrate that this mutation is responsible for a less severe form of CF than Δ508. Interfamilial differences for PI and lung function suggest that other factors, viz. genetic, environmental and medical, contribute to the wide spectrum of clinical differences observed in CF patients with the same CF transmembrane conductance regulator genotypes.

Notes: Summary The cationic phthalocyanin-like dye Cuprolinic Blue, unlike phthalocyanin dyes such as Alcian Blue or Astra Blue, can definitely exhibit a clear metachromatic reaction with appropriate substrates, The application of Cuprolinic Blue to epoxy-embedded semithin sections revealed that mast cell cytoplasmic granules, goblet cell mucin and cartilage matrix stained in violet shades (metachromatic), whereas nuclear chromatin presented a bright blue coloration (orthochromatic). The metachromatic structures showed a high degree of contrast when ultrathin sections treated with Cuprolinic Blue were examined by electron microscopy. Cytophotometric measurements of stained components from the large intestine showed different absorption maxima: at 580 nm for mucin and at 640 nm for nuclei. The spectroscopical analysis revealed a clear-cut metachromatic shift when the dye was in the presence of chondroitin—4-sulphate. The addition of aluminium metal to Cuprolinic Blue solutions resulted in a striking spectral change; under such conditions the dye showed absorption maximum at 530 nm.
