    Notes: Abstract The propagation of off-axis Gaussian beams through an optical system is described in the paraxial approximation. The formulae for the second harmonic power for stationary focused noncollinear SHG is given. Numerical results and analytical approximations for limiting cases are provided. The theory is applied to the problem of background of noncollinear SHG in pulse duration measurement techniques.

    Notes: Abstract We have observed spontaneous parametric four-photon scattering in electrolytic solutions (alkali halides and alkaline earth halides in water). The spectral, temporal, and spatial intensity distributions of the scattered light have been measured. Using a Q-switched ruby laser as a pump, and a CuSO4-solution as a filter we observed signal wavelengths in the range from 350–550 nm with a maximum intensity at 480 nm for all of the investigated solutions. This radiation is emitted into a cone with a half-angle of roughly 60 mrad. In comparison to pure water the scattered radiation in electrolytes has a much higher intensity. Most of the experimental results confirm predictions of the theory of spontaneous four-photon scattering.

    Notes: Abstract The formalism for fragment angular distributions in photofission with unpolarized and linearly polarized photons is summarized. First experiments on232Th using linearly polarized bremsstrahlung are described. The results for the analyzing power show for the first time in a model independent way that the low energy photofission can be explained byelectric dipole excitation. The possibilities of this new method are discussed, in particular when using monoenergetic tagged photons, which are available soon at new high duty cycle electron accelerators.

    Notes: Abstract The energy and angular distribution of theα-particles from the50Cr(n, α) reaction for 14.1 MeV incident neutron energy was measured by means of a multitelescope system. The results are compared with calculations based on the statistical model of nuclear reactions including precompound processes. This comparison indicates that there is somewhat more emission of high energyα-particles than predicted from the conventional precompound model suggesting direct excitation of the lowest excited states of47Ti. No indication is found for a reduction of the effective moment of inertia below the rigid body value. From the shape of theα-spectrum in the backward hemisphere and the known total number of levels below (U=3 MeV the level density parameters of47Ti were determined asa=5.4±0.3 MeV−1 andΔ=−1.9±0.2 MeV in the framework of the back-shifted Fermi-Gas model.

Diese Tatsache ist um so interessanter, als der Schwellenwert der beiden Gruppen gegenüber den klassischen Geschmacksqualitäten — süss, salzig, sauer und bitter — derselbe ist.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Geschmacksblinde gegenüber 6-n-Propylthiouracil zerfallen in zwei Gruppen (Dimorphismus): eine mit niedrigen und eine mit hohen Geschmacksschwellenwerten gegenüber Chinin. Jene der ersten Gruppe haben niedrige Schwellenwerte auch gegenüber den andere Geschmacksqualitäten — sauer, salzig und süss — und gehören zur α-Geschmacksgruppe. Vertreter der zweiten Gruppe, das heisst 6-n-Propylthiouracil-Geschmacksblinde mit hohen Geschmacksschwellenwerten gegenüberChinin gehören zu der β-Geschmacksgruppe. Patienten mit paroxysmal vaskulärem Kopfschmerz (Migräne mit familiärer Komponente), jedoch ohne elektronencephalographische Anomalie, gehören ausschliesslich zu der β-Geschmacksgruppe. Die Eltern von mongoloiden Kindern weisen hohe Geschmacksschwellenwerte gegenüber Chinin auf, wobei die Väter zur β-Geschmacksgruppe gehören.
