    Notes: Abstract A semi-empirical model applicable to the flow of blood and other particulate suspensions through narrow tubes has been developed. It envisages a central core of blood surrounded by a wall layer of reduced hematocrit. With the help of this model the wall layer thickness and extent of plug flow may be calculated using pressure drop, flow rate and hematocrit reduction data. It has been found from the available data in the literature that for a given sample of blood the extent of plug flow increases with decreasing tube diameter. Also for a flow through a given tube it increases with hematocrit. The wall layer thickness is found to decrease with increase in blood hematocrit. A comparison between the results of rigid particulate suspensions and blood reveals that the thicker wall layer and smaller plug flow radius in the case of blood may be attributed to the deformability of the erythrocytes.

An analysis of the error has been provided.

    Notes: Abstract The differential equations of motion of the elliptic restricted problem of three bodies with decreasing mass are derived. The mass of the infinitesimal body varies with time. We have applied Jeans' law and the space-time transformation of Meshcherskii. In this problem the space-time transformation is applicable only in the special case whenn=1,k=0,q=1/2. We have applied Nechvile's transformation for the elliptic problem. We find that the equations of motion of our problem differ from that of constant mass only by a small perturbing force.

    Notes: Summary Cytogenetic analyses of bone marrow and meiotic cells in an apparently normal male mouse clearly revealed the presence of an extra Y chromosome leading to 2n=41, XYY. During meiosis the sex chromosomes formed all possible types of combinations (XYY, XY/Y, YY/X and X/Y/Y). Compared to 40, XY normal mice, the sperm count was significantly less, but the incidence of sperm head abnormality was at the normal level.

An asymptotic error estimate for the casen=2 has been determined.

    Notes: Abstract Patterns of early and late replication in the individual chromosomes of the Djungarian hamster (Phodopus sungorus) have been studied using the techniques of Giemsa staining suppression when bromodeoxyuridine is incorporated into the DNA. — Late replicating autosome regions correspond to G-band regions, early replication regions are less clearly demarcated but correspond to R-band regions plus some G-band zones. In part this reduction in sharpness of early replication bands may be due to the fact that nearly all metaphase G-bands contain R-band material since they are compounded from blocks of sub-G bands. — The long arm of the X chromosomes in the female differ in the start time of synthesis but are rarely separable at the close of S. There are no differences between the short arms. In the male, Y starts very late but finishes about the same time as the X which behaves like the early replicating X of the female.

    Notes: Abstract The electron spin-lattice relaxation time (T1e) of the paramagnetic radical-ion center SO 3 − in a naturally occurring single crystal of barite was studied in the temperature range 10–300 K by the pulse saturation recovery technique. The changes in T1e from 30 K to 300 K are much smaller than those expected from usual Raman processes in solids. The results suggest a very weak connection between SO 3 − center and lattice.

    Notes: Abstract Flower colour spectra were initially used in India to characterize the flora of urban localities (Nagrathna, 1968; Oommachan, 1973), but only on a presence-absence basis. In order to have a quantitative appraisal of the flower colour spectrum of the vegetation at a particular locality, the density of the species and the number of flowers on each plant should be taken into account. Only this gives the actual number of flowers of a particular colour per unit area: the flower density.
