Description: Network coding has been confirmed as a potential technology to improve performance of wireless mesh networks (WMNs); network coding has great advantages for sensor networks like minimization of communication needed to collect sensor data and error recovery. A few network coding aware routings have been proposed. However, these mechanisms detect coding opportunities through local traffic pattern checking, which hardly obtains optimal routes. This paper proposes a Distributed Dynamic Memetic Algorithm Based Coding Aware Routing (DDMCAR) for wireless mesh networks, which employs memetic algorithm to optimize routes and coding opportunities. This paper proposes an improvement over GCAR algorithm by employing memetic algorithm and also meme sharing among nodes to increase the chance of finding optimal solution and continuous monitoring and update of meme fitness to achieve a dynamic tracking of network conditions, and finally using most fit memes for load balancing elevating congestion. Through simulations on randomly generated wireless mesh networks, DDMCAR is to be shown to find optimal routes within a short time and achieve more improvements than GCAR.

Description: With recent advances in wireless sensor networks and embedded computing technologies, body sensor networks (BSNs) have become practically feasible. BSNs consist of a number of sensor nodes located and deployed over the human body. These sensors continuously gather vital sign data of the body area to be used in various intelligent systems in smart environments. This paper presents an intelligent design of the body sensor network based on virtual hypercube structure backbone termed as Smart BodyNet. The main purpose of the Smart BodyNet is to provide resilience for the BSN operation and reduce power consumption. Various experiments were carried out to show the performance of the Smart BodyNet design as compared to the state-of-the-art approaches.

Description: The interference occurs in radio signals transmission in many communication technologies are attributed to weather variations as well as other environmental factors. This work evaluates some atmospheric variables that have a dominating impact on temporal signal strength fluctuations. The Received Power Level (RPL) of Ultra High Frequency (UHF) communication signals (1800 MHz and 2160 MHz) and three tropical weather predictors (humidity, temperature and wind) were collected using spectrum analyser (KEYSIGHT N9915A) and weather station (Vantage Pro 2) respectively for 24 hours in rainy days. SmartPLS 3.2.6 was used to determine the strongest predictors influence the RPL for UHF frequency. It has been found that changes in weather conditions have affected the signal in which all weather predictors provide a significant relationship to the signal where R 2 (coefficient of determination) value is 0.314 for frequency 1800 MHz and 0.254 for frequency 2160 MHz. The findings al...

Description: Focus of present work is to develop a setup for high strain rate electromagnetic forming of thin aluminum sheets (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mm) and optimization of forming parameters. Flat spiral coil of 99.9% pure Cu strip (2.5x8.0 mm) with self-inductance 11 μH, 13 no. of turns and resultant outer diameter of 130mm has been fabricated and was coupled to a capacitor bank of energy, voltage and capacitance of 9 kJ, 900 V and 22.8 mF, respectively. To optimize the coil design, a commercially available software FEMM-4.2 was used to simulate the electromagnetic field profile generated by the coils of different pitch but same number of turns. Results of electromagnetic field intensity proposed by simulation agree in close proximity with those of theoretical as well as experimental data. The calculation of electromagnetic force and magnetic couplings between the coil and metal sheet are made. Forming parameters were optimized for different sheet thicknesses. Electromagnetic field intensi...

Description: We demonstrate a passive Q-switched by integrating a Bismuth (III) Telluride (Bi 2 Te 3 ) dispersed in Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) as passive saturable absorber. The experimental works show that the proposed passive saturable absorber operated at input power ranging from 21.69 mW to 126.89 mW with central operating wavelength of 1531 nm. We observe the tunable repetition rate from 40 kHz to 166 kHz with the shortest pulse width of 1.32 μs. The laser produced maximum instantaneous output peak power and pulse energy of 1.62 mW and 11.2 nJ, respectively. The signal to noise ratio was measured at 49 dB which indicates the stability of the generated pulse.

Description: The aim of this paper was to examine the ability of junior high school mathematics teachers to solve mathematical literacy base Problems (PISA and PISA-like problems) for the case Pasaman regency. The data was collected by interviews and test. As the results of this study, teacher ability in solving mathematical literacy base problems for level 1 until 3 has been good, but for level 4 or above is still low. It is caused by teacher knowledge about mathematical literacy still few.

Description: In order to fabricate a thermoelectric device on glass substrate for harvesting waste heat energy through house appliances, the Seebeck coefficient of translucent TiO 2 thin film was investigated. The TiO 2 thin film was synthesized by using hydrothermal method with F-SnO 2 coated glass as substrate. From scanning electron microscopy analysis, the synthesized TiO 2 thin film was found to be in nanometer-scale rod structure with a thickness of 4 µm. The Seebeck coefficient was measured in the temperature range of 300 – 400 K. The Seebeck coefficient is found to be in negative value which shows that synthesized film is an n-type semiconductor material, and is lower than the value of bulk-size material. This reduction in Seebeck coefficient of TiO 2 thin film is likely due to the low dimensional effect and the difference of carrier concentration.

Description: Natural rubber is a humid agricultural harvest, which mostly contains hydrocarbon cis-1, 4-Poly isoprene. Through depolymerisation technology, the natural rubber can be changed into liquid product, and then it can be subsequently utilized as a fuel or chemical feedstock. This article aims to provide an outlook on the natural rubber and its sources, which are available globally. Numerous depolymerisation processes, which include pyrolysis, gasification, chemical degradation, catalytic cracking and hydrogenation, were introduced in this paper, while the focus of discussion was emphasized on the hydrous pyrolysis process. Many studies have shown that the use of hydrous pyrolysis able to improve the depolymerisation process, e.g. the raw material can be feed without drying, the process can be carried out at lower temperature, only the water is used as the reaction medium, and it is easy to separate the water from oil product. The effect of operating parameters such as temperature, w...

Description: The increase in tourist demand for highland experience is inevitable. Cameron Highlands, established as a Tea Plantation Estate during the British Colonial era in 1929, has evolved into a major highland tourism destination providing a cool climatic experience coupled with scenic beauty in the midst of Tudor concept architecture which enhances the destinations historical value. Realising such tourism potential, the Boh Plantation management has provided a visitor centre as recreational facility for tourist utilisation. However, the absence in imposing an entrance fee has left a vacuum in determining the recreational economic value of this facility as the benefit of this agro-tourism product to tourists remains unknown. It would be important for the management to identify the benefit since the development and maintenance of the facility is costly. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to estimate the benefit of such establishment in highlands area by assessing visitor's Willingness ...

Description: The new low energy electron beam accelerator bunker was designed and built locally to allocate a 500 keV electron beam accelerator at Block 43T in Malaysian Nuclear Agency. This bunker is equipped with a locally made radiation shielding door of 10 tons. Originally, this door is moving manually by a wheel and fitted with a gear system. However, it is still heavy and need longer time to operate it manually. To overcome those issues, a new automated control system has been designed and developed. In this paper, the complete steps and design of automated control system based on the microcontroller (PIC16F84A) is described.
