Soluble basic aluminum chlorides are formed from freshly precipitated hydrous aluminum oxide and aluminum chloride. Because of aggregation in solution, the reactivity of these hydroxy chlorides against H+-ions is considerably decreased. On standing the instable salts are slowly transformed into an aged hydroxide and hydrated Al3+-ions.

Lösliche basische Aluminiumchloride bilden sich aus frisch gefälltem Oxydhydrat und Aluminiumchlorid. Sie aggregieren sich in der Lösung, wodurch ihre Reaktionsfähigkeit mit H+-Ionen sehr herabgesetzt wird. Alle diese Hydroxydsalze sind instabil; sie gehen über Zwischenstufen in ein gealtertes Hydroxyd und Al3++-Ionen über.
