Summary A description is given of a gravimetric determination of carbon, hydrogen and the halogens (Cl, Br, I) in a single sample. Corresponding to the C-H-determination, the organic material is burned on a Co3O4 catalyst. A supplementary absorption vessel charged with activated silver wool takes up the halogens quantitatively at 580° C. The proportion by weight of the halogens is derived from the increase in weight of the silver tube. A determination requires 45 minutes. The deviations of the found values lie within the permissible limits of error.
