Carbonate precipitation from CaCl2—MgCl2 solutions at the molar ratio Ca:Mg ∼ 1;5, that is, in excess of neutral salt, yields in no case dolomite, CaMg(CO3)2, but only CaCO3 · H2O. This is in accordance with the assumption that the position of the hydratation equilibrium of the Mg2+ ions hinders the formation of a lattice containing unhydrated Mg2+ ions.

Die Fällung von CaCl2—MgCl2-Lösung führt bei einem molaren Verhältnis Mg:Ca ∼ 5:1, also bei Neutralsalzüberschuß, nie zu Dolomit, sondern nur zur Bildung von Calciumcarbonatmonohydrat CaCO3 · H2O. Das Nichtauftreten von Dolomit steht im Einklang mit der Annahme, daß die Lage des Hydratationsgleichgewichtes der Mg2+-Ionen die Ausbildung eines Gitters mit anhydrischen Mg2+-Ionen verhindert.
