Notes: The writer's original views (1942) on the polymorphism of calcium carbide are upheld in his discussion of a different phase scheme recently proposed by BORCHERT and RÖDER.The lattice constant of the cubic phase, IV, is newly determined as 5,880 ± 0,005 Å at 477 ± 2 °C, and its transition temperature is 450 ± 2 °C.

Notes: The view is upheld that Cu2C2 may be structurally related to CaC2 at best as remotely as Cu2S is to CaS, and that, contrary to the reported density, the molar volume of Cu2C2 is not likely to be larger than that of CaC2.
