Description / Table of Contents:
By condensation of 1.2-dihydroxy-cyclobutenedione (squaric acid) with bifunctional primary and secondary amines 1.3-polyamides of the squaric acid have been synthesized. The polycondensation products are members of a new group of polyamides which contains the mesomeric cyclobutenediyliumdiolat-system. On the contrary with the esters of squaric acid as starting material the isomeric 1.2-polyamides have been obtained. The IR-spectra are discussed and the properties of both groups of polyamides are characterized by thermogravimetric and viscosimetric measurements. The mechanism of the reaction is described and confirmed by isolation of intermediate compounds and by IR-spectroscopic measurements. It is also confirmed by investigating corresponding reactions with monofunctional amines and by isolating the analogous low molecular intermediate compounds.
Notes:
