Notes:
The paper deals with the study of development of skin glands in normal and in thyroxine treated Rana pipiens larvae. The development of skin glands in various regions is found to be sequential. The glands also undergo development at different rates in different regions. At high thyroxine concentrations the mucous glands were found to differentiate faster than serous glands. Hormone treatment, besides precocious skin maturation brings about temporal separation of otherwise simultaneous events. The findings emphasize the intrinsic, qualitative differences of cells of the skin system.
