    Notes: A secondary thermal conductivity cell of the horizontal, concentric cylinder type was developed. The thermal conductivity of the pure gases nitrogen and ethane and approximately 20, 40, 60, and 80% binary mixtures of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and ethane were determined at 75°C. to 3,000 atm. Several predictive techniques were investigated and recommendations are made.

    Notes: Using the principles of the quasi-equilibrium theory, substituent effects, deuterium labeling and comparison of compound behavior, we provide strong evidence for aryl participation in the expalsion of Br· from the molecular ion of β-phenylethyl bromide and eleven of its ringsubstitued derivatives. This reaction shows a kinetic behavior which is typical of rearrangements, its activation energy is lower than that of similar reactions where participation is partially or completely precluded and substitute effects are not only consistent with a particular process, but are also consistent with those predicted from solution chemistry.

    Notes: Polyphenylene-s-triazinyl ethers of apparently high molecular weight have been prepared by the interfacial polycondensation of s-triazinyl chlorides and sodium bisphenoxides. The polymers are characterized by good thermal stability, insolubility, and infusibility. The polymers can be varied by altering the reaction conditions. A long residence time at the reactive interface leads to a polymer of low residual chlorine and thus highly crosslinked. Reduction of the contact time at the reactive interface leads to polymers containing a greater amount of chlorine and consequently some linearity.
