Notes:
5-hydroxyindane and 6-hydroxytetralin and their respective anions have been investigated by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The results indicate that by forming the anion of 5-hydroxyindane, the increase of electron density is the greatest at position 6, in agreement with its abnormal reactivity (Mills-Nixon effect [2]).
