Description / Table of Contents:
It was established that the polycondensation of N-methylolpyromucamide takes place at a considerable rate in formic acid and boron trifluoride ethyletherate as catalyst. The polycondensation increases considerably with the increase of acid concentration and of temperature. Polymers with melting points above 260°C can be obtained at temperatures of 30 to 75°C for 1 to 16 hours in 83-94 per cent formic acid. The identity of polymers obtained by the authors with the polyamide obtained by MOLDENHAUER from N-methylolpyromucamid in sulphuric and acetic acid at 0°C as well as from 5-aminomethylpyromuconic acid ester was established by means of IR spectra.
Notes:
