Summary Isopren was polymerized using Lithiumbutyl as catalyst, and the solubility, the thermal stabilty and the molecular weight distribution of the products were tested. We found that polyisoprenes with a molecular weight greater than 10 to 20 millions are not stable and rupture followed by cross-linking.

Zusammenfassung Unter Verwendung von Lithiumbutyl als Initiator werden extrem hochmolekulare Polyisoprene aufgebaut und die Eigenschaften dieser Substanzen wie die Molekulargewichte und ihre Verteilung, das Löslichkeitsverhalten und die thermische Stabilität untersucht. Dabei stellte es sich heraus, daß Polyisoprene oberhalb eines bestimmten Molekulargewichtes instabil sind und unter Abbau- und Vernetzungsreaktionen zerbrechen. Bei Zimmertemperatur liegt dieses Grenzmolekulargewicht zwischen 10 und 20 Millionen.
