    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract Formazans react with formaldehyde and secondary amines to give verdazyls, having the N-containing substituent in position 6. These substituents cause hypsochromic shift, as do -C≡CH and phenyl in position 6. The verdazyls obtained through reaction with secondary amines are not discharged to stable violet cations with acid but are decolourized and simultaneously destroyed. Triphenyltetrazolium chloride reacts with CH2N2 to yield solutions of 1.3.5-triphenylverdazyl.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Formazane reagieren mit Formaldehyd und sekundären Aminen zu Verdazylen, die in 6-Stellung den N-haltigen Substituenten tragen. Diese Substituenten wirken, wie auch -C≡CH und Phenyl in 6-Stellung, hypsochrom. Die unter Verwendung sekundärer Amine erhaltenen Verdazyle werden durch Säure nicht in stabile violette Kationen verwandelt, sondern unter Entfärbung zerstört. Aus Triphenyltetrazoliumchlorid wurden mit CH2N2-Lösungen von 1,3,5-Triphenyl-verdazyl erhalten.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Verdazyle mit einer Methylenbrücke in 6-Stellung werden in Gegenwart von Carboraffin durch Luftsauerstoff unter Ringöffnung zu N-Formyl-formazanen oxydiert. Mit Acetanhydrid/BF3-Ätherat ergeben C-Aryl-formazane C-Aryl-N-Acetyl-formazane.

    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract The preparation and properties of crystalline free radicals containing two or three “verdazyl”-groups per molecule are described. Through the paramagnetism of the three triradicals, corresponding to three unpaired electrons, remained unchanged when cooled to a temperature of 77° K, one of the nine biradicals showed a reversible change to diamagnetic form under these conditions. The absorption and ESR spectra are related to the structures of the radical species.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Darstellung und Eigenschaften von kristallisierten freien Radikalen, die zwei und drei Verdazyl-Ringsysteme pro Molekül enthalten, werden beschrieben. Während der Paramagnetismus der drei dargestellten Triradikale 3 ungepaarten Elektronen entsprach und bis 77° K unverändert blieb, fand sich unter den neun dargestellten Biradikalen eines, das beim Abkühlen reversible diamagnetisch wurde. Die Absorptionsspektren und ESR-Spektren werden im Zusammenhang mit Strukturfragen diskutiert.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Ausgehend von Zuckerformazanen wurden wasserlösliche grüne Verdazyle dargestellt. Diese freien Radikale hemmen die Wasserstoffperoxidzersetzung durch Katalase und durch Platinmohr.

    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract Verdazyls react with FeCl3 and other metal halides in formic acid to give double-salts. Verdazylium⊕;·C(NO2)3 ⊖; and Verdazylium⊕;NO3 ⊖; were obtained with tetranitromethane. Verdazyliumsalts and tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine yield, in an electron transfer reaction, the corresponding verdazyls andWurster's-blue; i. e. two diamagnetic compounds react to give two stable paramagnetic species. The absorption spectra of different substituted verdazylium salts are discussed in relation to the spectra of the corresponding verdazyls.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Verdazyle reagieren mit FeCl3 und anderen Metallhalogeniden in HCOOH unter Bildung von Doppelsalzen. Mit Tetranitromethan erhält man Verdazylium⊕; C(NO2)3 ⊖; und Verdazylium⊕;NO3 ⊖;. Verdazyliumsalze und Tetramethyl-p-phenylendiamin ergeben unter Elektronenübergang Verdazyle undWursters Blau. Dabei werden aus 2 diamagnetischen Verbindungen 2 paramagnetische Radikale gebildet. Die Absorptionsspektren verschiedenartig substituierter Verdazyliumsalze werden im Zusammenhang mit den Spektren der entsprechenden Verdazyle diskutiert.
