Summary A simple method for the micro determination of selenium in organic materials is described; it is based on combustion in an empty tube. The selenium is quantitatively oxidized to selenium dioxide in a stream of oxygen even at 650° C. The rapid gasification of the sample is accomplished by means of two gas burners and the pyrolysis products pass through a heated zone 15 cm long. The selenium dioxide deposits immediately behind this zone and is washed out and then determined iodometrically. The use of several combustion tubes permits series determinations.
