Notes: Summary The asymptotic behaviour of the stochastic process $$k \to \frac{1}{k}\sum\limits_{i{\text{ }}\underset{\raise0.3em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle-}$}}{ \leqslant } {\text{ }}k} {X_i }$$ as k→∞-X ={X i : i=1,2,⋯ being a sequence of independent random variables having mean 0 and positive finite variance, satisfying both Lindeberg's condition and the strong law of large numbers — is studied by means of a distribution invariance principle. This invariance principle sharpens the classical one due to Donsker and Prokhorov describing the “weak” asymptotic behaviour of partial sums of independent random variables on a semi-infinite time interval. The topology of the path space being appropriately chosen it allows to compute the limit distributions of certain functionals associated to X, such as $$X \to \left( {\sum\limits_{i{\text{ }}\underset{\raise0.3em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle-}$}}{ \leqslant } {\text{ }}n} {EX_i^2 } } \right)^{1/2} \mathop {\max }\limits_{k{\text{ }}\underset{\raise0.3em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle-}$}}{ \geqslant } {\text{ }}n} \frac{1}{k}\left| {\sum\limits_{i{\text{ }}\underset{\raise0.3em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle-}$}}{ \leqslant } {\text{ }}k} {X_i } } \right|{\text{ (}}n \to \infty {\text{)}}{\text{.}}$$ Moreover, for uniformly bounded variables X i , a general estimate of the rapidity of convergence is derived and applied to various special cases

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wird über quantitative photometrische DNS-Messungen an 1500 menschlichen Lymphozyten und Granulozyten mit dem Zeiss Cytophotometer UMSP I nach Feulgenfärbung berichtet.
Notes: Summary The DNA- content of 1500 human lymphocytes and granulocytes was measured with the Zeiss cytophotometer UMSP I after Feulgen staining. The Feulgen staining was carried out with freshly prepared as well as aged Schiffs reagent. In addition we used several batches of Schiffs reagent prepared with various Pararosanilin preparations (Merck, Bayer, Chroma). We got an identical staining of DNA in all samples stained with fresh Schiffs reagent or with Schiffs reagent, prepared from the same batch of Pararosanilin. A fading of the Feulgen stained nuclei was observed after storing the samples for several months. Of all samples the ones stained with Pararosanilin Chroma were most resistant to fading.

Notes: Abstract It is shown that a separable potential represents an interaction acting only in a onedimensional subspace of Hubert-space. Thus the particular rôle played by the collective state in the schematic model is a consequence of the simplifications made in replacing realistic forces by a separable potential.

Notes: Abstract The validity of the quasi-particle approximation for the two-point function in nuclear physics is tested by means of one-particle strengths taken from (d, p) reactions. It is found that in general the quasi-particle approximation is not justified.
