Summary Minty andPrager have treated networks with flow and tension, where the flow- and tension-components are linked for every branch by a monotone increasing curve. The problem to get a flow and a tension for which these linkages will hold is equivalent to the following two problems: (1) minimise a convex function of the flow-components, (2) minimise a convex function of the tension-components. This paper treats the following generalisation. Letx andy be two vectors, which are choosen in two orthogonal manifolds in such a way, that all pairs of respective components (σi, ηi) are linked by given monotone increasing curves. The problem, to get such vectors is equivalent to a pair of dual convex programs. We give here the duality-theory for these programs.

Zusammenfassung Minty undPrager haben Netzwerke betrachtet, bei denen der Fluß und die Spannung für jede Kante durch eine monoton steigende Kurve gekoppelt sind. Die Aufgabe, Fluß und Spannung im Netzwerk so zu bestimmen, daß die Koppelung für jede Kante erfüllt ist, ist äquivalent zu jeder der beiden folgenden Aufgaben: 1. Minimiere eine konvexe Funktion der Flußkomponenten, 2. Minimiere eine konvexe Funktion der Spannungskomponenten. Die folgende Verallgemeinerung dieser Aufgabenstellung wird behandelt: Zwei Vektorenx undy sollen in zwei zueinander senkrechten Mannigfaltigkeiten so bestimmt werden, daß alle Komponentenpaare (ξi, ηi) durch monoton steigende Kurven gekoppelt sind. Dieses Problem ist äquivalent zu zwei konvexen Optimierungsaufgaben. Eine Dualitätstheorie für diese Optimierungsaufgaben wird entwickelt.
