Conclusions 1. Hardness measurements have been used to investigate the strengthening that occurs on aging at 900–1500°C molybdenum alloys belonging to the systems Mo−Ti−C, Mo−Zr−C, and Mo−Ti−Zr−C, quenched from 2100°C; electron-microscopic analysis has been used to determine the alloys' phase composition in the later stages of aging. 2. On aging quenched alloys for 10–20 h, the molybdenum solution precipitates those phases that should exist in the alloys according to the equilibrium diagrams of the system Mo−Ti−C, Mo−Zr−C, and Mo−Ti−Zr−C. 3. Maximum hardness is attained in the alloys on aging at 1200–1300°C (0.5–0.55 Tmp) for 2–4 h. 4. The carbide ZrC strengthens the alloys investigated to the greatest extent, and the carbides (Ti, Zr)C and TiC strengthen them least. The carbide Mo2C reduces the strengthening effect on aging, and hence its presence in the alloys is undesirable.
