Organic Syntheses in the Plasma of Glow Discharges, X. Generation and Reactions of Benzyne from Phthalic AnhydrideWhen phthalic anhydride is decomposed in the plasma of a glow discharge, biphenylene, triphenylene and polymers are formed as main products. The intermediates C6H4CO, C6H4 and C6H4-C6H4 can be trapped by addition of H2, H2O, NH3, CS2 and C2H2. In these trapping experiments large amounts of biphenyl, aniline, dibenzothiophene and phenylacetylene are formed.

Wird Phthalsäureanhydrid im Plasma von Glimmentladungen zersetzt, so entstehen als Hauptprodukte Biphenylen, Triphenylen und Polymere. Die Zwischenstufen der Reaktion, C6H4CO, C6H4 und C6H4-C6H4 lassen sich abfangen. Mit Zusätzen von H2, H2O, NH3, CS2 und C2H2 entstehen zum Teil in guten Ausbeuten Biphenyl, Anilin, Dibenzothiophen und Phenylacetylen.
