Summary The content of sodium and potassium of the egg ofOryzias latipes was estimated by flame-photometry and activation analysis. In the unfertilized egg, the concentration of sodium is lower than that of potassium, being approximately 70% of potassium. When the egg is fertilized, the amount of sodium increases, while the amount of potassium decreases. The ratio of potassium to sodium is changed from 1.4 to 0.6 upon fertilization. The transport of sodium and potassium in the fertilization process was discussed with the presence of the experimental results.
