Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Summary The soluble form of alanine aminotransferase exhibits a genetic polymorphism. The structural variation is caused by differences in charge, and also by different catalytic activities of the gene products. Thus, the gene product of the phenotype GPT 2 has 44% of the catalytic activity of GPT 1. Moreover there are differences in catalytic activity, which are not combined with visible differences in electrophoretic mobility. It has thus been shown, that the distribution of catalytic activities within phenotypes does not give normal distribution curves, but a multiple modality of catalytic activities is responsible.
