Polarographic Investigations of Ferroin and Cuproin Type Ligands.Some ligands of the type of Ferroin ((dipy); (phen)) and Cuproin ((dmp); (dichi); (hmch); (dmch); (pmch)) were examined polarographically in water, methanol, dimethylformamide and acetonitrile. Correlations between E1/2- and λ-shifts and mesomere possibilities were interpreted qualitatively on the basis of the HMO theory. Further, a reduction scheme of these compounds at the electrode was discussed by means of the measured dates and the calculated values of the electron-densities.

Die Ferroinliganden 2,2′-Dipyridyl (dipy) und 1,10-Phenanthrolin (phen) sowie die Cuproine 2,9-Dimethyl-1,10-phenanthrolin (dmp), 2,2′-Dichinolyl (dichi), 3,3′-Dimethylen-2,2′-dichinolyl (hmch), 3,3′-Dimethylen-4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-dichinolyl (dmch) und 3,3′-Dimethylen-4,4′-diphenyl-2,2′-dichinolyl (pmch) wurden in Wasser, Methanol, Dimethylformamid und Acetonitril auf ihre polarographischen Eigenschaften untersucht. Zusammenhänge zwischen der Verschiebung von E1/2 und λ in Abhängigkeit von den Mesomerie-Möglichkeiten der Liganden wurden mit Hilfe der HMO-Theorie qualitativ gedeutet. Mit Hilfe der polarographischen Meßdaten und der berechneten Elektronendichten wurde ein Reduktionsschema dieser Verbindungen an der Elektrode diskutiert.
