Mischungen von 1.2- und 2.3yDimethylcyclopentadien wurden mit FRIEDEL-CRAFTS-Katalysatoren polymerisiert. Auf Grund von NMR- und IR-Messungen wird geschlossen, daß das 1.2-Dimethylcyclopentadien im Sinne der 3.4-Addition reagiert, während das 2.3-Dimethylcyclopentadien eine 1.4-Addition zeigt. Dieses Ergebnis ist verständlich, wenn man die Stabilität der wachsenden Kationen und den sterischen Einfluß der Methylgruppen berücksichtigt. Die Empfindlichkeit der Polymeren gegen Oxydation durch Luftsauerstoff wird auf die α-Methingruppen zurückgeführt.

Mixtures of 1.2- and 2.3-dimethylcyclopentadiene were polymerized with FRIEDEL-CRAFTS catalysts. From NMR and IR spectra of the polymers it was concluded that 1.2-dimethylcyclopentadiene propagated via the 3.4-addition, and 2.3-dimethylcyclopentadiene via the 1.4-addition. These results may be explainable by considering the stability of the growing cation and the steric effect of the methyl group. Finally the ease of air oxidation of polymers was discussed in connection with the amount of the α-methine hydrogen in polymers.
