Conclusions 1. The determination of the mapping of the image region into the original semiinfinite region is a consistent development of the method of images. 2. In the long-wavelength approximation (λ/a≫1) the solutions of diffraction problems for a semi-infinite region in many cases can be constructed by the method of images in explicit form. 3. In the resonance region of diffraction (λ/a∼1) solutions for semiinfinite and infinite regions present equal difficulties. In this case the calculations are carried out on a computer. 4. The method is convenient for constructing the singly diffracted fields which are of fundamental interest in geophysics and radiographic flaw detection.
