    Notes: The one-electron Hamiltonian method is developed to solve the variational equations of the MC SCF theory.The many-parameter family of the one-electron Hamiltonian is derived and conditions for parameters to provide convergence of the SCF procedure to the energy minimum are obtained. A computation scheme based on the use of the one-electron Hamiltonian is described.

    Notes: The electronic structure of the benzyl radical in its ground state has been computed using a model Hamiltonian due to Pariser-Parr with full configuration interaction as well as with different truncated configurational sets built on SCF open-shell orbitals. The correlation energy corresponding to this model was found to be equal to -0.929722 eV. With the singly excited configurations only 18% of this energy is taken into account. By extending the basis to include the doubly excited configurations one can account for 94% of the correlation energy. An analysis of the accuracy of the proton hyperfine splitting calculation caused by inaccurate computation of the wave function is given. If only singly and even doubly excited configurations are taken into account one cannot hope to obtain splittings with an accuracy of more than 0.5 g. Inclusion of triply excited configurations lowers this error by one order. In addition, the use of the simple McConnell relation may lead to an error in splitting calculations of no less than 1.5 g.

    Notes: This article describes-a new method, suitable for use on a digital computer, for evaluating the singular double integral of Hayes which determines the transonic wave drag of a slender body.     Notes: The method of lowering the order of a matrix equation which describes the dynamics of a finite element model is presented. The finite element with a ‘truncated’ mass matrix is obtained for calculating thin plate vibrations. Such an element has one vibrational degree of freedom at each nodal point. In the case of uniform systems the accuracy provided by the suggested element is no less than that provided by the non-conforming elements, which have three vibrational degrees of freedom at each nodal point, and in some cases it is greater. The finite elements with a ‘truncated’ mass matrix have essential advantages in the study of non-uniform systems.

    Notes: Ab initio calculations using a small Gaussian basis set, including 3d orbitals on the sulphur atom, have been performed on the fluorosulphate radical and the related ions SO3F+ and SO3F-. A new SCF procedure is described and applied to the open shell cases discussed here.     Notes: Polikanov's perturbation method for the solution of the radial Schrödinger equation is shown to be equivalent to the usual Rayleigh-Schrödinger method but with full normalization instead of intermediate noralization. The energy corrections are shown to be the same to all orders. The computational advantages of Polikanov's method are discussed. The method is illustrated by considering the two-electron ions in the Hartree-Fock approximation.

    Notes: A self-consistent perturbation theory is derived in the framework of Roothaan's MOLCAO procedure for closed shell systems. Contrary to previous investigations which have considered only one particle perturbations, two particle perturbation operators are considered. Expressions for the first-order density matrix and first- and second-order energy corrections are obtained. A diagram formulation of the complete perturbation expansion is presented.The results are applied to the treatment of the intermolecular interaction problem. The interaction energy is represented as a sum of several contributions: Coulomb, exchange, resonance, polarization and exchange repulsion. A semi-empirical version of the theory is suggested which explicitly involves all the physically significant energy terms and may be useful for the investigation of complex systems.

    Notes: It is shown that any expectation value of any observable associated with a molecule is the sum of loge contributions and of loge pair contributions. This result provides a rigorous theoretical basis for the study of additive properties of molecules.It is demonstrated that molecular wave functions (exact or approximate) can be expressed as a sum of functions corresponding to the various electronic events. Furthermore any of these event functions can be expressed in terms of correlated loge functions. This expression suggests many kinds of variational procedures of calculating wave functions (known methods and new ones).The case in which noncorrelated completely localized loge functions are used is discussed. If continuous functions are used the variational equation reduces to a sum of independent variational equations, each one corresponding to a particular electronic event. This is not so when discontinuous functions are used or when a delocalized function is added to replace the correlation interloge function.The noncorrelated completely localized loge model is analyzed in more detail. It is seen that local spin operators can be introduced and that each event density operator is the product of the loge density operators. Therefore that model is an independent loge model. The corresponding generalized self-consistent field equations are derived. This treatment helps us to understand how a localized state of a molecule can produce an ion containing a delocalized region, a phenomenon which is sometimes at the origin of some misunderstanding in photoelectron spectroscopy. Finally it is seen how virtual loge functions can be introduced to describe excited states.

    Notes: The model of complete loge localization is employed here to develop a practical method for handling correlation effects in atomic and molecular many electron systems. Intraloge correlation is dealt with by an independent variational treatment of pair functions which are continuous and vanish outside a given loge. It is shown that in the context of the model it is possible to compute pair correlation energies for localized single and double bonds in molecules by evaluating only modified atomic integrals. We bypass in this manner the evaluation of multicenter integrals necessary in other formalisms. In addition, the corrections to the model are discussed and in particular it is shown that part of the interloge correlation effects are already described by the loge localized wave function.
