    Notes: Zusammenfassung Trägt man dieα-Energien von Kernen mit gleicher Neutronenzahl in Abhängigkeit von der Atomzahl auf, so ergeben sich in diesem Diagramm bemerkenswerte Regelmäßigkeiten. Für eine konstante Neutronenzahl wächstE α fast linear mitZ, mit Ausnahme gewisser Protonenzahlen, bei denen Unregelmäßigkeiten auftreten. Aus einer Untersuchung dieser Unregelmäßigkeiten ergibt sich das Vorhandensein einiger mehr oder weniger stabiler Protonenschalen. Darüber hinaus wird gezeigt, daß das allgemeine Verhalten derα-Energien in Abhängigkeit vonN undZ sich sehr einfach durch eine Absättigung der Kernkräfte erklären läßt.

    Notes: Summary The object of this paper is to investigate the propagation of elastic waves in an infinite elastic space due to an explosion at the centre of a spherical cavity. The explosion takes place accompanied by thermal change due to which it is assumed that the material nearer to the cavity differs from that away from the same. It is also assumed that the explosion causes: i) a periodic force -σ rr =p(t)=p 0 e iwt on the surface of the cavity. ii) an impulsive force -σ rr =p(t)=p 0 H (t) on the surface of the cavity,H(t) being Heaviside unit function.

    Notes: Summary The paper is concerned with the investigation of the magneto-elastic waves and disturbances in initially stressed conducting media. Firstly, (a) the steady state response to moving loads in a magneto-elastic initially stressed conducting medium under an uniaxial tension has been discussed. Secondly, (b) the Lamb's problem corresponding to a line load suddenly applied in a magneto-elastic initially stressed conducting half-space bounded by a plane under uniaxial tension has been investigated. The final results obtained in both cases are in agreement with the corresponding classical problems when the initial tension is zero and the magnetic field is absent.

    Notes: Summary Fourier transforms of theoretical magnetic anomalies of two-dimensional bodies (vertical fault and horizontal cylinder of infinite length) are computed. In both cases it is shown that for a particular body the amplitude spectra of horizontal and vertical anomalies are the same and the phase spectra differ by π/2. Different parameters like depth and susceptibility contrast can be calculated from the amplitude spectrum.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung Die Stabilitätseigenschaft einer von unten erwärmten, unendlich ausgedehnten, horizontalen Flüssigkeitsschicht wird untersucht in dem Fall, wenn ein stabilisierender Salz-Konzentrations-gradient gegeben ist und die Flüssigkeitsschicht mit konstanter Winkelgeschwindigkeit um eine vertikale Achse rotiert. Die Untersuchung infinitesimaler Störungen zeigt, dass das System zuerst gegenüber oszillierenden Störungen instabil wird. Darüber hinaus wird an dem Beispiel von Strömungen in der Form von Rollen gezeigt, dass die Schicht gegenüber Störungen endlicher Amplitude instabil wird, bevor infinitesimale Störungen anwachsen. Die Rotation übt eine stabilisierende Wirkung aus. Der Einfluss von Rotation und Salz-Konzentrationsgradient auf den Wärmetransport wird diskutiert.

    Notes: Summary The object of the present paper is to investigate magneto-elastic waves and disturbances in initially stressed conducting media. Firstly, the theory of magneto-elastic surface waves in a conducting medium under an initial uniaxial tension has been deduced and then it has been employed to investigate the particular cases of surface waves such as Rayleigh, Love and Stoneley waves. Secondly, propagation of waves in an elastic layer has been considered using the fundamental equations of motion for magneto-elastic waves in conductors under an initial uniaxial tension or compression. This is followed by the case of plane Lamb's problem in a magneto-elastic semi-space under the same initial tension. The final results obtained in the above cases are in agreement with the corresponding classical problems when the initial tension is zero and the magnetic field is absent.
