Notes: [Auszug] Nuclear preparations from an SV40 transformed human cell line are rich in TSTA activity5. Accordingly, fractions from murine SV AL/N cells enriched in nuclei and also containing the cytoplasmic membranes were sonicated and solubilised by the detergent technique. Details are given in Table 1. ...

Notes: [Auszug] Macaque monkeys were used, as the heat-regulating processes in man and subhuman primates are similar4. Two monkeys were seated in primate chairs and trained to exercise strenuously on a 'rowing machine'5, using food pellets as reinforcers, so that they lifted up to three times their own body ...

Notes: Abstract Experiments with gas mixtures intended to simulate the primaeval atmosphere of the Earth yielded many biologically important chemicals. Investigations into the synthesis of porphyrinlike compounds from methane, ammonia and water vapour were carried out by using high frequency discharges. Microanalyses of porphyrins showed that porphyrin-like pigments were formed in this way. The presence of divalent cations in the reaction system increased the yield of porphyrin-like pigments also involving the direct synthesis of their metal complexes. The ready formation of these compounds in abiotic conditions is significant, suggesting the possibility of their appearance during the early stage of chemical evolution.

Notes: Abstract The kinetics of bulk crystallization of Se61.5Ge15 4Sb23.1 glasses was investigated from their thermal behaviour. In the thermal characterization of a glass the recrystallization temperature is highly dependent on both the rate of heating and the thermal history of the glass. Vitreous samples were prepared by quenching. From ratedependent curves it was found that the recrystallization process obeys first-order kinetics with an apparent activation enthalpy of 48±5 kcal/mole. Further analysis allows determination of both the activation enthalpy,H=90±4 kcal/mole, and the kinetic exponent of the Avrami equation,n=1.9±0.3.

Notes: Summary Several cationic dyes were found to behave as inhibitors of K+ uptake in yeast. When added at high concentrations or in a K+-free medium, dyes can also produce and efflux of K+. The dyes are taken up by the cells in a process that, in different degrees, for several cations requires glucose and is inhibited to a higher degree by K+ than by Na+. The inhibition of cation uptake is of the competitive type with EB and close to this type with other dyes. Ca2+ inhibits the uptake and effects of dyes and in some cases also seems to change the inhibition kinetics on Rb+ uptake closer to a pure competitive type. According to preliminary experiments, the efflux of K+ seems to be of the electrogenic type, and not due to the disruption of the cells. The data indicate that, independently of the existence of other types of interaction (which do exist), dyes seem to interact with the system for monovalent cation uptake of yeast in different degrees of specificity and energy requirement. This interaction can be followed by fluorescence or metachromatic changes or reduction of the dyes as observed in the dual wavelength spectrophotometer and can be inhibited specifically by K+, but not by Na+.

Notes: Summary Given a pair (A,M), where A is a complete ring with respect toM-adic topology, we can define theformal spectrum of A: this is the basic concept of the theory offormal schemes (see[4], I, § 10). In a similar way, given a Hensel pair (A,M), we can develope a theory ofHenselian schemes. In this work we study some properties of Henselian schemes, like the existence ofdefinition ideals (def.2.3) which are useful to have a « good definition » ofmorphisms (def.3.10) and, in particular, ofadic morphisms (def.3.11). At the end, after some remarks about henselian product of pairs, we prove the existence and uniqueness of product in the category of Henselian schemes (prop.4.7) and we apply the above results to adic morphisms (prop.4.9).

Notes: Abstract Differential thermal analysis measurements were performed between 115 and 550° on glass samples of GeSb2Se4 chalcogenide alloy, and the latent heats of structural transformations were obtained. Heat treatment was found to result in the appearance of an endothermic peak associated with the glass transition.
