Notes:
Rat peritoneal macrophages were studied for their ability to undergo metabolic cooperation. Macrophages were unable to cooperate with human fibroblasts. This was true for macrophages which had been activated in vivo as well as for macrophages treated with various agents in vitro. Macrophages were also unable to undergo metabolic cooperation with rat fibroblasts or with other macrophages. In contrast, rat reticular cells, mesothelial cells, and fibroblasts were able to cooperate with human fibroblasts.
