Notes:
We have compared the spectral transmission coefficient of a Raman spectrometer and photomultiplier device determined (a) from a continuous spectrum (calibrated tungsten lamp) and (b) from the spectrum of the rotational Raman lines of D2 molecules. The two methods give a similar sensitivity curve as a function of wavelength. However the first method is more accurate in the determination of the spectral response over a wide spectral range (˜3000 cm-1 or more); and the second method is better than the first for obtaining accurate value of the intensity of the Raman lines and their absolute scattering cross sections.
