Abstract Nickel (Ni) inhibited mycelial growth and spore production by filamentous fungi. Sporulation ofAspergillus niger, Aspergillus giganteus, Penicillium vermiculatum, andGliocladium sp. was more sensitive to Ni than was mycelial growth; mycelial proliferation ofBeauvaria sp. was more sensitive to Ni than was spore formation; and withTrichoderma viride andRhizopus stolonifer, both processes were approximately equal in sensitivity to Ni. Lower levels of Ni were not inhibitory to mycelial proliferation but stimulated spore production byT. viride.
